  • Mavericks Volleyball

Coach Char Wasson, For the Courier|Oct 18, 2023

Oct. 10 at Harlem This match was a good rematch chance against a team that has grown a lot this season. This is also one of the few teams we play twice in our regular season; In fact, I believe they are the only team we see twice. We had a few hiccups in our serving with 11 errors in three sets. Those are hard to give up but we continue to talk about the end of the season and how important serves will become in our tournament games. I thought we did a good job of distributing our sets to our hitters and made some good plays overall. We won the...

  • Doomsday (For Gardening)

    Mary Honrud, For the Courier|Oct 18, 2023

Editor's Note: This column was submitted on Oct. 18. The hard freeze last week has finished off my gardening for this year. I’m sure it finished off everyone’s gardening as well. We saw it drop to 19°, which was a good 7° colder than predicted. I’d spent Wednesday pulling squash, pumpkins, a few late cucumbers, a lot of green peppers, and what I knew would be the last harvest of husk cherries, as well as moving the remaining houseplants back inside for the winter. The tomatoes got covered...
