Scottie Volleyball Digs Deep for Wins

The Glasgow volleyball team notched to big wins last week, avenging an earlier season loss to Glendive and earning a conference win in Poplar. The Scotties down the Red Devils in four sets 25-18, 25-13, 15-25, 25-17 with stellar play Oct. 12. On the road the following day they swept the Indians 25-23, 25-12, 28-26.

Glasgow put on a show against Glendive for Pink Night, outplaying the Class A school in three of four sets. The Scotties had five aces, 23 kills, 23 assists, 16 blocks and 78 digs while the Red Devils put eight aces, 29 kills, 27 assists, three blocks and 85 digs on the stats sheet.

Tatum Nyquist led the Scotties in aces and kills with two and nine, respectively. Floor leader Macy Martin set her teammates up with 20 helpers. Halle Hunter owned the net with seven of Glasgow's blocks while Joely Chappell notched 20 digs.

"Well, Glendive was probably the best we've played, the girls dominated the net and did a fantastic job of setting up the offense," said head coach Brooke Martin Oct. 15. "Great look heading into tournaments next week."

Glasgow's C squad lost their match in four 13-25, 17-25, 15-11, 7-15 while the JV team dropped theirs in three 24-26, 18-25, 11-15.

On the road Friday, the Scotties improved their conference record to 6-2. Glasgow racked up seven aces, 29 kills, 29 assists, 13 blocks and 56 digs while Poplar had 17 aces, 17 kills, 58 assists, four blocks and 88 digs.

Nyquist and M. Martin both had three aces for Glasgows. Chappell led in kills with 14 and in digs with 18. M. Martin notched all 29 of the team's assists and Hayden Green knocked down seven Poplar shots at the net.

Coach Martin noted Hunter sprained her ankle, keeping her out of the game and disrupting the team's chemistry, "but it was great to come out with another conference win there too."

Glasgow's sub-varsity teams also brought home wins: C squad in four 23-25, 25-23, 15-12, 15-9 and JV in three games 25-11, 25-23, 15-11.

The Scotties enter the final week of the regular season with an 8-5 overall record. Glasgow has two matches remaining before the post-season: Wolf Point and Fairview. The Scotties host the Wolves Thursday, Oct. 19, for Senior Night honoring both volleyball and cross country between the JV and varsity matches. Play begins at 1 p.m. with C squad action.

Friday, the Scotties take on the Eagles in Fairfield for JV and varsity action beginning at 3 p.m. All matches will be broadcast on the NFHS network.
