North Country Volleyball

North Country’s volleyball team picked up a win over Brockton last week before competing at the Choteau Tourney Saturday.

The Mavericks downed the Warriors on the road Sept. 28 in three sets 25-1, 25-16, 25-13. As a team North Country put up 28 aces, 24 kills, 20 assists and 14 digs.

Paige Wasson led in aces with 12 followed by Emerson Downing with five and Lyli Bear with four. Teagan Erickson had eight kills while Kendall Scheffelmear had six and Wasson five. Kennedy Simonson led in assists with eight followed by Wasson with five and CharLee McColly with three. In digs, Berkley Hillman paced the Mavericks with three. Erickson, Kodi McColly and Gracie Wasson added two digs a piece.

North Country opened the Choteau tournament with a two-set loss to Jefferson 8-21, 14-21 before coming back with a win over Malta 21-9, 21-16. The Mavericks split their sets with host Choteau 21-15, 20-21 before closing out the day with a win over Belt 21-16, 21-15. North Country had 16 aces, 78 kills, 68 assists and 82 digs over the course of the tournament.

P. Wasson again led in aces with six. Scheffelmear added five to the stats sheet while Simonson and Hillman put up three each. Erickson paved the way in kills with 37, followed by P. Wasson, 22; Scheffelmear, 11, and C. BaiLee McColly six. Simonson was the team’s assists leader with 45 while P. Wasson had 16 helpers and C. McColly six. P. Wasson and Scheffelmear had 14 digs a piece for North Country as did Hillman. Ireland Mears put up 11 while Simonson put up 10 digs.

North Country hosts the Lustre Christian Lions Saturday, Oct. 7, in Hinsdale for a 6 p.m. match. The Mavericks will be in Harlem Tuesday, Oct. 10, for a 5 p.m. match against the Wildcats.
