The North Country Mavericks added two their win column after dropping a volleyball match to the Class B Malta Mustangs. North Country bounced back from the loss to defeat MonDak in Saco and Culbertson in Hinsdale, fitting triumphs as each town celebrated their senior night.

Whitewater played host to the Mavs’ match against Malta on Thursday. The visitors took the match in four 25-20, 25-19, 11-25, 25-23. “We were looking to play a whole lot better than when we played them at the beginning of the season,” head coach Charlene Wasson said. “I feel like we competed in this match even coming away with a loss.” She added, “We have been improving all season long in all areas of the game, and after this match, I can see we are very close to firing on all cylinders.”

North Country welcomed back Kendall Scheffelmear and Cienna Strommen and Wasson praised the growth of her players on the floor and on the bench, particularly in the areas of communication and concentration. Despite slow practices prior in the week, which led to a slow start in the match, Wasson said, “...they did a great job of staying focused and getting themselves out of the holes that they dug themselves into early in the match.”

For the second senior night, the Mavs were in Hinsdale where they defeated the Culbertson Cowgirls 25-11, 25-12, 25-17, handing the Cowgirls their third loss of the season. “This match was the best match the Mavericks have played all season long,” Wasson said of the 4th seeded Mavericks’ upset of the 3rd seeded Cowgirls. “Each position on the floor was in tune with the game and ready to play. Our hitters had a great night at the net and our servers did an excellent job getting the ball over the net. Our blockers really frustrated their two middle hitters and we took away their opportunities to score off attacks.”
