19U Ice Dawgs Drop Two to Fusion

The 19U Ice Dawgs hosted their first home games this past weekend, facing off twice against the Flathead Fusion. Glasgow dropped their games on Jan. 8 and 9 to the visitors, who sported a far deeper bench than the home town girls.

Glasgow appeared to take some time to get their game legs going on Friday evening after an extended holiday break. The girls stayed fairly even with Flathead in the first period, as the Fusion put up eight shots in the first to the Dawgs' six attempts. However, the Fusion were able to convert on one of their shots, while Glasgow was unable to find the back of the net. The Fusion again found their way past Dawgs goalie, Elizabeth Nyquist in the second period for a goal and twice in the third period, including a power play goal to give Flathead a 4-0 win.

Glasgow was outshot in the game 34-18, with Nyquist turning away 30 shots at her net. The Fusion incurred two penalties, while the Dawgs sat for three. Tatum Provencher sat in the second for interference. Ava Lloyd and Tori Pehlke both took trips to the box in the third period for tripping.

The two teams were back on the ice Saturday morning, battling it out to similar results. The Dawgs put up a goal in the first period, however the Fusion went on to win 4-1. Kylie Lagerquist scored the Dawgs' goal, bringing them within one goal after the Fusion's early lead. Flathead added an insurance goal with 15 seconds left in the period. Their final goal came in the third period to cement their win.

Nyquist saw 32 shots in the game as her teammates threw 23 pucks at the other net. Flathead was called for one penalty and Glasgow for two. Lloyd sat in the second for roughing and Shanice Lagerquist was sent to the box in the third for the same infraction.

The 19U team will be on home ice again this weekend, hosting Salmon for a trio of games. Senior Night will be Friday, Jan. 15, at 8 p.m., honoring Shanice Lagerquist and Elizabeth Nyquist. The Dawgs will have two games on Saturday, at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the Valley Event Center.
