Glasgow Football Season Ends

Fall to Manhattan in Semifinals Finish 9-3 on Season

Glasgow's successful football season came to an end, just one game shy of the state championship. The team traveled to Manhattan this past weekend to take on the Tigers in the semi final game to determine who would move on to the final game of the season. At the final buzzer, Manhattan came out on top with a score of 43-18.

The Scotties struggled against the Tigers, who came into the game fully prepared to shut down Glasgow's run game. Glasgow was unable to convert their drives into first downs until late in the first half while Manhattan took control of the field and the scoreboard.

The hosts put up their first touchdown of the game at 9:49 in the first and took an early 8-0 lead. Another strong drive by the Tigers covering 70 yards added a second score for the home team. Glasgow kept their composure though and battled back late in the quarter on a Loden Idler quarterback keeper. The 16-yard touchdown run put the Scotties on the scoreboard for six points when the two-point attempt failed.

Coming back after being scored against for the first time this year in the playoffs, Manhattan went right back down the field to add their third touchdown on a QB keeper from Caden Holgate. The Tigers would increase their lead to 29-6 with 8:34 left in the first half after a 70-yard touchdown pass. The Scotties refused to give up and battled back with just 25 ticks left on the clock when Idler ran the ball five yards in for Glasgow's second touchdown of the game. A failed two-point conversion put the score at 29-12 going into halftime.

Manhattan kept control in the third quarter by driving down the field and eating up the clock. The long Tigers' drive culminated in another touchdown for the home team, and a good kick took the score to 36-12 with 6:24 to play in the third. Glasgow went deep into their running back line, relying on Kyler Hallock, Dalton Sand and Tatum Hansen to move the ball downfield with senior starter Jesse Lee on the sidelines with an injury.

Idler would also turn to receiver Colten Fast in the third, who delivered by snagging a catch and moving into the end zone for Glasgow's third, and final, touchdown of the game. The Scotties were unable to convert on their two-point attempt and the score 36-18 held for the remainder of the quarter. A Glasgow turnover in the fourth quarter set up Manhattan for their final touchdown of the game and a good kick took the Tigers' lead to 43-18.

Manhattan would notch a sack and force a fumble on Glasgow's next possession, which sealed the game in the hosts' favor. The Glasgow Scotties ended the season with a 9-3 overall record, including two playoff wins and one loss.
