The Glasgow School Board of Trustees continues to address the budget shortfall to the general fund, the main source of funding for the District. On April 23 the Board met in a work session and made the decision to move forward with the elimination of a principal position, after the Irle School Principal requested to be transferred to a teaching position. After the Nashua Town Council scheduled election was canceled due to municipal elections being held in odd-numbers years, the Town of Nashua Council got to work in accepting letters of interest from individuals to fill two open positions. These two positions have been held by Dave Leraas and Ann MacDonald, though their term expired Dec. 31, 2023. Valley County Free Tree Day 2024 will be held Friday, May 10, on the east lawn of the Valley County Courthouse starting at 7:30 a.m. A total of 1,000 trees will be given away during this one-day event including 200 Ohio Buckeye, 200 Common Lilac, 200 Horse Chestnut, 100 Saskatoon berry, 100 Red Twig Dogwood, 100 Golden Currant and 100 Villosa Lilac. Melford Arrotta, 97, passed away peacefully on Friday, Dec. 29, 2023. Funeral services with military honors will be held at Bell Mortuary, Glasgow, Mont., on Friday, May 3, 2 p.m. A reception will follow at the Cottonwood Inn, Glasgow.
