Though it felt more like early spring than winter on Feb. 3, a total of 71 participants came out to the Glasgow Area Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture's 26th Annual Ice Fishing Derby on Feb. 3. A coroner’s inquest related to the 2022 death of Dennis Wing was held Jan. 31, at the Valley County Courthouse. According to law, the inquest is a formal inquiry into the causes and circumstances surrounding the death of a person and is conducted by the coroner before a jury. Last week, the Valley County Commissioners passed a resolution amending the county mill levy for state equalization, county high school equalization and the county elementary equalization mill levy authority for this fiscal year. The Montana Supreme Court sided with the Gianforte administration in December when it ruled that counties must calculate 95 mills for the states school equalization fund. On Jan. 23, at approximately 2337 hours, Phillips County Sheriff’s Office dispatch received a mutual aid request from Blaine County for a vehicle pursuit headed towards Phillips County on US 2. The Frazer and Glasgow teams had an exciting time this past weekend in Choteau, competing in the State Speech and Drama Competition. The first day of competition, Jan. 26, saw the students completing the first three rounds of the competition. The Montana Department of Commerce announced on Jan. 25, that 20 Montana towns, cities and counties will share $947,000 of grant funding to help develop and plan infrastructure projects to increase area health and safety. The Glasgow Area Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture had a very successful holiday season with its Chamber Big Bucks and Local Little Christmas Campaign, despite not having the Community Cash Program. The Chamber of Commerce Big Bucks program was very successful. From Oct. 1, through Dec. 31, 2023, alone, $20,615 of Chamber Big Bucks was purchased from the Chamber Office.
