  • PeeWee Hockey Places Sixth In MAHA Tournament

    Quinn Robinson, The Courier|Mar 12, 2014

The Valley Event Center hosted the 2014 MAHA PeeWee State Tournament, but unfortunately for fans of the Glasgow Ice Dawgs, there was no home cooking for the home team. Glasgow lost all three of their games in the tournament on their way to a sixth place finish. It was a disappointing finish to the season for a team that showed tremendous heart and promise throughout. Glasgow came into the tournament with a 10-5-1 record and seeded fifth, but that didn't prevent Ice Dawgs head coach Pat Braaten...

  • Not In Our House

    Quinn Robinson, The Courier|Mar 5, 2014

The feeling all year among fans of Glasgow boys basketball was that there was something special here with this group. On Saturday night, the team proved that theory right in front of a raucous home crowd as Glasgow avenged a loss to Malta a week earlier in the District 2B championships by winning the Northern B Divisional championship 62-59. When the final buzzer sounded and sent the packed house into a frenzy, no one appeared to be as happy as Scotties head coach Norm Braaten. "We were...

  • A Little Short

    Quinn Robinson, The Courier|Feb 26, 2014

Districts are over and both Glasgow teams are still standing. On the boys side, many didn't get the end result that they wanted, a District championship, but all is well, especially since Divisonals start at Glasgow High School on Thursday. "We can't ask for anything more," said Glasgow boys head coach Norm Braaten. "We have our own beds, our own food, a good draw." Don't forget the Scottie faithful. Earlier in the week, word started making its way around time encouraging Scottie fans to show...

  • Leaving It All On The Mat

    Quinn Robinson, The Courier|Feb 19, 2014

Starting out with a bang. That's exactly how Glasgow wrestling head coach Trevor Newman described the first day of the State Meet in Billings on Friday. "I was please that we had four of the five reach the second day of the tournament," Newman said. Day two of the tournament was a different story. All of the momentum going into the second day was lost as Glasgow came crashing back down to earth going 0-6 on the day. Even with the dismal performance by the team in day two, Kasey Seyfert was able...

  • Catch Them If You Can

    Quinn Robinson, The Courier|Feb 19, 2014

It's playoff time. The regular season has come to an end and now it's time to see how special this season can be for the Glasgow boys basketball team. Glasgow secured the No. 1 seed in the District 2B tournament that starts on Thursday as they won their final two games of the season against Malta and Poplar. Senior guard Lane Herbert, who's been battling a foot injury the past couple of weeks, got the start in Glasgow's final game of the season at home on Saturday, much to the surprise of fans...

  • State Bound

    Quinn Robinson, The Courier|Feb 12, 2014

Glasgow head coach Trevor Newman is happy with the performance his wrestlers have given him all year and excited to see what can happen in Billings, especially with Cody King. King is coming off a stellar freshman year and is...

  • Chasing The Dream

    Quinn Robinson, The Courier|Feb 12, 2014

Rachael Zeiger casually walks into the gym of Glasgow High School after school one day and immediately walks onto the basketball court where senior boys guard Lane Herbert is shooting by himself before practice. "Lane, do you need a rebounder?" Zeiger asked. "Sure," Herbert replied as he continued to drain his shots. Rachael Zeiger didn't always know that she was meant to be a runner. All she did know is that she is super competitive in whatever sport she plays. Growing up, Rachael admitted...

  • Scotties Catch A Break

    Quinn Robinson, The Courier|Feb 12, 2014

The Glasgow boys basketball team received great news about the status of senior guard Lane Herbert after a foot injury in last Thursday’s game against Harlem. Herbert has a bruised ligament in the top of his foot in what he says doctors are calling a strained arch. Herbert is hoping that if everything goes right with the healing process, he should be back in time for Districts. Scotties head coach Norm Braaten said there is no rush in getting Herbert back on the court. “I want him healthy for Districts so if that means not playing this wee...

  • GHS Boys In Prime Position

    Quinn Robinson, The Courier|Feb 5, 2014

Revenge is sweet, especially when it’s served in doses of three. The Glasgow Scotties hit seven 3-pointers, four from senior Lane Herbert alone, as they avenge a loss against Glendive at home on Jan. 30 with a 75-59 win. The win meant a lot for the Scotties as Glasgow fell from the top spot in Class B to No. 3 in the rankings. Glendive is a Class-A opponent and ranked fourth in the Jan. 29 rankings. The win will surely help Glasgow’s cause when the new rankings are released later today. In the game, Glasgow’s main focus was controlling what...

  • Scottie Girls Suffer Loss

    Quinn Robinson, The Courier|Feb 5, 2014

The Glasgow girls basketball team had retribution on their mind as they battled against Glendive once again on Jan. 30. After playing a close game in their first meeting, one in which Scotties head coach Emilee Morehouse thought they should have won, the Scotties fell once again to Glendive 54-36. Glasgow’s struggle on the offensive side of the ball continued as the Scotties only managed six points in the first quarter and 17 before half in which they trailed 33-17. Morehouse acknowledged the struggles on offense and said it’s something the tea...

The Scotties took fifth place overall in the Harlem tournament this past weekend and saw five of their wrestlers place in their respective weight class including Kasey Seyfert winning the tournament at 113 pounds. Seyfert claimed his crown by beating a foe that has had his number the past few weeks. "Kasey wrestled strong and had a good showing," Scotties head coach Trevor Newman said. "He beat a kid 5-0 to win and...

    Quinn Robinson, The Courier|Jan 29, 2014

It feels so good to be back home. After a two-game stretch which were also the first two losses on the board for the Glasgow boys basketball team this season, the Scotties returned to familiar territory against Wolf Point on Saturday and also returned to the win column. Glasgow head coach Norm Braaten said that the bump in the road his team endured was needed, but that he believes his team has turned the page. "I think we're back on the right track," Braaten said. "We're going to get back at it...

  • Battling Through Mid-Season Troubles

    Quinn Robinson, The Courier|Jan 29, 2014

The Glasgow girls basketball season isn't going the way any had hoped, but the Scotties tenacity and relentless continues to shine on the court. The Scotties were dealt another blow in their latest 43-25 loss against Wolf Point when Megan Rasmusan left the game with an ankle injury. Rasmusan was helped off the court to the relief of Glasgow and Wolf Point fans alike before Glasgow athletic trainers retrieved a pair of crutches to take Rasmusan in the locker room for further evaluation. The...

  • Super Bowl: Exciting For Any NFL Fan

    Quinn Robinson, The Courier|Jan 29, 2014

The stage is set and the biggest game of the NFL season is finally upon us. The fan bases of the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks have been celebrating like no other since their teams clinched spots in Super Bowl XLVIII on Jan. 19. They shouldn’t be the only ones celebrating. Everyone that watches football, even the casual fan, should be excited about this. Why? Because this Super Bowl sees Peyton Manning return to the bright lights, some that never thought would happen again after his neck problems at the end of his stint in I...

  • Ice Dawgs Receive Top Honors

    Quinn Robinson, The Courier|Jan 22, 2014

When the Valley Event Center was constructed years ago, the main reason behind it was to give kids with the passion to play hockey a legitimate place to play. That idea continues to pay dividends as three of Glasgow's own, Harley Eliason, Ryan Padden and Connor Simensen, were selected to play on the Bozeman Ice Dogs U18 Tier II team this year. Eliason, Glasgow's brick wall of a goaltender that deflects opponents shots on goal in the same manner that one would swat flies, said he was excited...

  • Challenge Accepted

    Quinn Robinson, The Courier|Jan 22, 2014

It was a matchup talked about all day around Glasgow. The day had finally come and many in the community saw this as a measuring stick in seeing just how good the Glasgow boys basketball team is. Especially when the stick was that of two-time defending state champ Malta. As the final buzzer sounded, jubilation filled the Glasgow gym as what was once assumed now became proven: Glasgow is the team to beat. The Scotties withstood a tough challenge from Malta, but it was the Scotties that reigned...

  • Scottie Girls Amp Up The Intensity

    Quinn Robinson, The Courier|Jan 22, 2014

On paper it wasn't supposed to be close. That's not a knock to the effort that Glasgow girls basketball head coach Emilee Morehouse expects from her team each and every time her squad takes the court, but they were squaring off against an undefeated Malta squad. A Malta squad that has seemingly run circles around its competition thus far. Friday night proved to be a tough challenge for Malta as Glasgow showed a fire and intensity that even caught Morehouse by surprise at the end of the game....

July • The airline that provides Essential Air Service to Glasgow and other small cities in Montana has decided to leave the state. Silver Airways notified the U.S. Department of Transportation that it will not bid for another two-year contract and will stop flying scheduled service in Montana on Sept. 27. Part of the reason for Silver's departure is the upcoming termination of EAS subsidies to Lewistown and Miles City on July 15, leaving only five cities in the program: Glasgow, Wolf Point, G...

  • Breakthrough

    Quinn Robinson, The Courier|Jan 15, 2014

Winless no more. The Scottie girls basketball team erased the zero they had in the win column on Saturday night at home in front of an energized crowd as they squeaked by with a 42-40 victory over Harlem. Girls head coach Emilee Morehouse said that the team is relieved to get their first win of the season. “They [the girls] were excited,” said Morehouse. “There was a lot of encouragement coming from them after the game.” The excitement didn’t come without a heart-stopping final few seconds of the game for Morehouse. Harlem had the ball for...

  • Not On Our Ice

    Quinn Robinson, The Courier|Jan 15, 2014

The Glasgow U19 Ice Dawgs escaped with a couple of nail biting wins over the weekend against Bottineau, but couldn't close out the hat trick on Sunday as Glasgow lost to Crosby 5-1. Both games against Bottineau went down to the wire. The first game Saturday afternoon saw both teams trade puck possession and hits throughout. Ice Dawgs goalie Autumn Gault had her share of work to cleanup around the crease, but did the job like she usually does. Late in the game, Glasgow's Carley Wesley found the...

  • Scotties In Attack Mode

    Quinn Robinson, The Courier|Jan 15, 2014

The Scotties boys basketball team has faced few challenges in the season so far. Storming out to an 8-0 overall record that includes a 3-0 mark in conference play, Glasgow head coach Norm Braaten realizes that the toughest challenge for his team comes this week as the Scotties square off against Malta. "It's going to be interesting to see the matchups on the court against Malta," Braaten said. "We're going to have to find out what matchups are in our favor and use them." Malta is tied with...

Compiled by Bonnie Davidson and Quinn Robinson, The Courier|Jan 8, 2014

January • The winter storm that hit northeast Montana on Thursday night, Jan. 10, wasn't a surprise. It had been making its way across the state, heralded by the forecasters. But its intensity on Friday brought on the winter grumbles. The storm deserved the term blizzard, with heavy snow that was blown by winds up to 41 mph, causing white-out conditions and drifts reported up to 9 feet deep. The low temperature of 1 degree above zero Friday night translated to about 29 below wind chill. A r...
