Scottie Boys Improve To 4-2 In Conference

The Scottie boys basketball team fell 53-46 to the Class A Sidney Eagles Jan. 23 but rebounded with two Class B Wins on Friday and Saturday. Glasgow defeated Rocky Boy 73-66 at home Jan. 26 and downed the Wolves 63-38 in Wolf Point Jan. 27 to improve their record to 4-2, 7-7 overall.

Wyatt Babb paced the Scotties in Sidney with 16 points followed by Cade Hudyma with 12. Toryn Richards connected for 8, Nick Solorzano 6, Connor Hudyma 4 and Myles Yoakam 2 points. Richards led the team in assists with three followed by Connor Hudyma and Babb both with two. Yoakam and Cade Hudyma had one helper each.

Babb notched the double-double with 12 rebounds. Richards pulled down nine boards, Cade Hudyma seven, Yoakam five and Connor Hudyma two. Connor Hudyma and Solorzano both had one steal for Glasgow while Babb had the only block for the Scotties.

The Glasgow JV team lost a tight 55-53 contest to the Eagles. Noah Runner and Gage Waarvik led the squad with 16 points each. Trey Graham hit for 9, Cash Stulc 4, Wyatt Sugg and Andy Hanson 3 each, and Davis Tolzien 2 points.

Friday night Glasgow took an early lead over Rocky Boy and held off the Northern Stars for the home win. Glasgow led 24-19 at the end of the first and held a 37-35 lead at the half. Rocky Boy tied the game by the end of the third at 52 each before Glasgow outscored the visitors 21-14 in the final eight minutes of play.

Yoakam and Babb led the Scotties with 24 points each. Cade Hudyma added 17 and Richards scored 8 points. Solorzano led the team in assists with 5 followed by Babb with four, Richards and Yoakam three each, Connor Hudyma two and Cade Hudyma one helper.

Babb and Cade Hudyma both notched double-doubles with 10 and 14 rebounds, respectively. Richards had five boards, Yoakam four, and Connor Hudyma and Solorzano three rebounds each. Richards, Babb and Cade Hudyma had two steals a piece. Babb and Cade Hudyma both had two blocks while Yoakam and Solorzano knocked down a shot each.

Glasgow's JV team won their game 65-53. Waarvik led the team with 24 points, followed by Runner with 16, Stulc 11, Sugg 6, Graham 5 and Hanson 3 points.

The C squad also won their game, 60-48. Stulc poured in 22 points followed by Tayven Bietz with 12, Kyler Whitman 7, Gavin Redstone, Tripp Mavity and Waarvik 4 each, Drew Simensen 3, and Gage Larsen 2 points.

The Scotties took the early lead against Wolf Point Saturday and held it for the game. Glasgow led 16-9 after one and 36-19 at the half. They more than doubled Wolf Point by the end of three with a 53-26 lead, going on to win 63-38.

Yoakam, hot from the outside, hit for 22 points in leading the Scotties, followed by Cade Hudyma with 20 points. Babb hit for 13 as part of his triple-double with 10 assists and 11 rebounds. Richards and Connor Hudyma both scored 4 points. Richards, Connor Hudyma and Solorzano added three helpers each and Cade Hudyma had one assist.

Cade Hudyma led in rebounds with 12. Richards grabbed seven, Connor Hudyma six, Yoakam and Solorzano four each, and Runner and Sugg one a piece. Richards led in steals with three while Solorzano had two takeaways and Yoakam and Babb one each. Cade Hudyma added three blocks to the stats sheet.

The JV Scotties ran away with their game, 78-32. Stulc hit for 26 points followed by Sugg with 14, Hanson 11, Waarvik 10, Graham and Runner 7 each, and Redstone 2 points.

The Scottie C squad also turned in a decisive win: 61-30. Stulc scored 19 in the win while Simensen hit for 12 points. Larsen scored 8, Waarvik 6, Bietz 4, Liam Chapman 3, and Whitman, Redstone, Braxton Potter and Mavity 2 each.

Glasgow hosts Malta Thursday, Feb. 1, for senior night. Girls JV will play at 3:30 p.m., Boys JV 5 p.m., Girls Varsity 6 p.m., with basketball, band and cheer seniors being honored before Boys Varsity at 8 p.m. The Girls C squad will play at 5 p.m. in the Evangelical Church.

The Scotties are in Poplar Friday, Feb. 2, to take on the Indians. The Girls C and JV teams will play at Poplar Middle School at 3 and 4:30 p.m., respectively. Boys C plays at 3, Boys JV at 4:30, Girls Varsity 6 and Boys Varsity at 7:30 p.m. all at Poplar High School.
