Opheim Vikings

Opheim's Carrie Taylor and James Landles will advance to the State Track Meet this weekend after earning slots at the Eastern C Divisional meet May 18 in Lambert. The Vikings, as part of the Unified Scobey-Opheim team helped the girls team earn second place with 96 points and the boys place seventh with 42 points.

Taylor earned second place and broke an Opheim School record in the javelin with a throw of 127-00, a personal record for the senior. She also placed fifth in the girls' discus with a personal best throw of 96-04 for another spot at the State Meet. Taylor placed 10th in shot put with a 29-04.75 toss.

Landles ran anchor on the boys 4x400 relay team which came in third with a time of 3:49.17 for a State spot. He and fellow Viking Bo Anderson each ran a leg on the 4x100 relay team, which ran a 48.67 for eighth place in Lambert. Landles just missed a State appearance in the 110m hurdles, finishing in seventh with an 18.73 time. He took ninth in the 300m hurdles with a time of 50.23 and 12th in the 200 meters at 25.80.

The MHSA Class A-C State Track & Field Meet will be Thursday through Saturday, May 25-27 at the Laurel Sports Complex, 203 E 8th Street, in Laurel. Class C girls pole vault is scheduled for Thursday afternoon will all other events taking place Friday and Saturday.
