Lustre Christian Boys Win Eastern C Divisional Track and Field Meet

The Lustre Christian boys track team took first place at the Eastern C Divisional meet held May 18 in Lambert with nine personal records. The Lions put up 87 points to prevail and send five athletes to the State Meet in Laurel this weekend.

Joseph Terran, Jasiah Hambira, Braden Ewing, Diek Olfert and Johnslee Pierre will represent the Lions in Laural. Byron Ewing, Ife Aniobi, Cayden Klatt, Emeka Aniobi, Naveen Pilla, Mason Hilkemann and Elijah Lenihan also competed in Lambert. Meredith Valentine, Angie Fontus, Anna Teichroew and Rachel Pew represented the Lustre girls at the Divisional Meet.

GIRLS

Valentine, Fontus, Teichroew and Pew combined to run a 1:06.48 in the 4x100 relay and took 10th place. Pew ran a 14.98 in the 100 meters for 14th place and Fontus took 13th in the triple jump with a distance of 23-00.25.

BOYS

Hambira won the 400 meters, running the race in 53.86. By. Ewing came in ninth with a time of 58.92 while E. Aniobi came in 12th at 1:03.92. Hambira took second in the 200 meters with a 23.59 followed by Joseph in third with a personal best 23.85 time. Br. Ewing ran a 24.10 for fifth place. Joseph also set an individual record in the 100 meters, taking third with a time of 11.57. Br. Ewing ran a 12.01 for 11th and I. Aniobi ran a 12.49 for 14th place.

Olfert earned his State appearance after taking sixth in the 800 meters with a personal record time of 2:22.02. Klatt finished in 11th at 2:29.90 and E. Aniobi ran a 2:38.06 for 13th place. Olfert also set an individual record in the 1600 meters, running a 5:41.56 to take 10th place. Klatt ran a 5:54.56 for 12th and Pilla finished in 15th with a 6:40.51 time.

Pierre won the 300m hurdles at 43.20 and placed third with a personal best 16.65 in the 110m hurdles. I. Aniobi took eighth in the 300m with a time of 50.08. Pilla set a personal record in the 110m hurdles and finished 10th with a time of 22.83. He ran a 59.05 to take 13th in the 300m hurdles.

I. Aniobi, By. Ewing, Br. Ewing and Joseph ran a 47.68 in the 4x100 relay to take fifth place. Joseph, Pierre, Br. Ewing and Hambira will run the event in Laurel.

Hambira won the high jump, 6-02.00, and the triple jump, 42-08.50, at the Divisional Meet. Lenihan and Olfert both cleared 5-04.00 in the high jump in a four-way tie for ninth place. Pierre took second in the triple jump with a personal best 42-00.50 distance. Br. Ewing notched 39-05.00 for fifth place. Pierre claimed fourth in long jump at 20-04.00 with Hambira a place and an inch behind him, 20-03.00. Br. Ewing placed seventh with a 19-10.00 jump while Joseph jumped 19-04.00 for ninth place.

By. Ewing threw 33-03.00 in the shot put for 13th place followed by Hilkemann in 14th with a 32-07.50 toss. Hilkemann set a personal record in the discus with a throw of 92-01, finishing in 12th place. Klatt took 13th with an 81-00 throw. Lenihan placed seventh in javelin with a 135-04 throw, a personal best. Hilkemann threw 90-11 for 14th place.

The MHSA Class A-C State Track & Field Meet will be Thursday through Saturday, May 25-27 at the Laurel Sports Complex, 203 E 8th Street, in Laurel. Class C girls pole vault is scheduled for Thursday afternoon will all other events taking place Friday and Saturday.
