Lustre Boys Complete Perfect Season

The Lustre Christian boys basketball team’s final weekend went the same way as the rest of the season – victorious. The Lions defeated the North Country Mavericks 69-32 Friday night in Hinsdale and beat the Dodson Coyotes 60-43 at home on Saturday.

Lustre Christian led 16-7 after one against North Country and 26-18 at the half. A 23-point third quarter put them up 49-24 heading into the final eight minutes.

Kolden Hoversland and Jasiah Hambira led the Lions with 13 points a piece while Cayden Klatt and Elijah Lenihan scored 10 each. Clay Reddig added 9, Alex Chen 7, Braden Ewing 4, Kaleb Hoversland 2 and Bryan Chen 1 point. Kolden Hoversland also led in assists with six. Lenihan and Klatt had two each while A. Chen, Ewing and Hambira had one each.

Ewing led in rebounds with seven followed by Kolden Hoversland and Klatt with three each. Hambira had two and B. Chen, Kaleb Hoversland, Lenihan and Reddig one each. Hambira led in steals with four followed by Kolden Hoversland with three, Klatt and Lenihan with two each, and Kaleb Hoversland, A. Chen and Ewing with one a piece.

Lustre Christian went up 16-9 after one against Dodson and led 36-21 heading into halftime. The Lions outscored the Coyotes 11-9 in the third before securing a 60-43 win to end their undefeated season.

Kolden Hoversland poured in 27 points while Lenihan added 16 and Hambira scored 11. Kaleb Hoversland scored 3 points, Klatt 2 and Ewing 1. Kaleb Hoversland had four assist to lead the Lions followed by Lenihan, three; Klatt, two, and Kolden Hoversland one.

Ewing pulled down eight rebounds followed by Clatt, Kolden Hoverlsand, Lenihan and Hambira with five each. Kaleb Hoversland had three boards for the Lions. Kolden Hoversland had four steals while Klatt, Lenihan, Ewing, Hambira and Arun Ramnarace had one each.

Lustre Christian enters the District 3-C Tournament with an unblemished record and a first-round bye. The Lions will face the winner of the North Country-Frazer game on Thursday, Feb. 17, at 3 p.m. in Wolf Point.
