Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

Children's Museum Gets a Makeover

Volunteers with the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints expended a bit of elbow grease recently at the Children's Museum of Northeast Montana in Glasgow, sprucing up the place for the enjoyment of area youngsters.

The 14 volunteers also gave a deep clean to the Glasgow Senior Center.

The volunteers are part of the Glendive Stake, which is similar to a diocese or district, which includes eleven congregations and covers eastern Montana from the Canadian border to the Wyoming border and from the North Dakota border east to Miles City, along with the Watford City area.

About 100 volunteers from the eleven congregations in the stake fanned out across northeast Montana as part of the church's 3rd Annual Day of Service, which fell on Sept. 11 in honor of the terrorist attacks on that date in 2001.

About 40 church members from around Sidney cleaned up trash along Highway 201 for a mile on each side of the intersection near the landfill, the entrance to the Savage Household Garbage site, and areas around Highways 16 and 58.

In Watford City, an area rancher donated a cow, and a group of missionaries and youth were taught how to do the butchering.

After being processed, the meat was then offered to local families in need.

A cemetery in Broadus was the focus of service as local church members continue to register all the graves on the Billion Graves website.

In Poplar, the rain canceled a planned outdoor cleanup of a vacant lot, but eight volunteers helped local missionaries clean their apartment.

In Miles City, twenty-four volunteers spent several hours at the Custer County Cemetery cleaning gravestones and markers.

"It was an awesome experience to do an outreach project for the community," said Lisa Kraft, a volunteer in Custer County. "The peacefulness and all coming together in unity was a huge touching moment. It was hard, but soothing to the soul."
