Scottie Runners Find Their Rhythm

Boys Place First, Girls Third at Glasgow Invitational

The Glasgow Scottie boys took the top slot at their home cross country meet in Kiwanis Park on Saturday, while the Glasgow girls claimed third place. The day started cool and heated up quickly, in time with the Scotties scorching runs.

The Scottie boys edged out the Wolf Point Wolves by a single point, 48 to 49, to earn the win with a total top five time of 1:32:54.18. Glasgow's girls earned 55 points with their time of 2:00:47.83 but they were outpaced by Custer County, 36 points, and Poplar, 49 points.

Reed Larsen led his Scottie boys, who placed five runners in the top scoring 15. Junior Larsen placed sixth overall with a time of 18:00.95 while fellow junior Lane Thompson ran an 18:12.43 to finish in eighth place. Seniors Bergen Miller and Dalton Sand finished in ninth and 10th places, respectively. Miller ran an 18:37.26 while Sand completed the course in 18:46.70. Freshman Kyler Holinde ran a 19:16.84 for 15th place among scoring runners.

Thompson told the Courier, "It felt amazing to run in front of the home crowd! Everyone is so supportive and always helping pull me along."

Blake Lloyd, senior, ran a 19:33.67 to finish in 17th place overall and sophomore Eli Feezell finished in 26th with a time of 20:40.27.

Iris McKean led the Scottie girls, again cracking the 20-minute mark with her 19:44.44 run. The Scottie senior claimed the top slot among scoring runners. Freshman Tana Baker completed the course in 20:53.78 for a second place finish. Fellow frosh Kheyerah Bilger ran a 26:13.98 to take 16th while junior Haylly Turner finished in 17th place among scoring runners with her time of 26:33.58. Eve Stone, sophomore, rounded out the Scottie varsity team with a 27:22.05 run and 19th overall.

Stone said, "I liked running at home. Home meets are my favorite and it was a nice flat course." Thompson also enjoyed the home advantage, "My favorite part of the course for me is definitely the scenery, not necessarily seeing where I was headed a mile down the race was nice and allowed me to stay in the exact moment I was in."

In JV action, Riley Smith led the Scottie boys, returning to the course battling shin splints. The junior ran a 21:22.10 to take second. Freshmen Ted See finished in fourth with his time of 22:32.10 and Adam Mickelson placed sixth with a time of 22:56.99. Owen Thompson ran a 24:59.52 for 10th place and sophomore James Seekins placed 11th with his run of 25:49.98. Dylan Hlad, junior, ran the course in 27:10.35 for 13th place.

Mary Dykema ran for the girls JV team and finished the course in 32:42.60.

Looking forward, Stone said, "I hope to just keep cutting time off through the season." Her teammate L. Thompson is also planning for the rest of the season. "My goal for the season is to run in the lower half of the 17 minute mark and to be on the podium at state." He added, "I'd like to thank everyone that came out to watch us run and let them know we will continue to run hard for the Scotties!"

The Scotties will run again this Thursday, Sept. 23, at the Frazer Invitational. On Saturday, Sept. 25, the varsity will attend the Billings Lockwood 7 on 7 meet.
