City Awards Paving Bid For Street Project Century Co. Inc. to receive $225,506

During their regular meeting April 19, the Glasgow City Council awarded a $225,506 paving bid to Century Companies, Inc., for the 2021 Street Improvements Project, voted to approve the Fiscal Year 2021-22 wages for city employees and accepted a three year audit contract with Anderson ZurMuehlen & CO., P.C..

Century Companies, of Lewistown, was the only business to submit a bid for the project. Hardrives Construction, Inc., of Billings inquired about the project but did not submit a bid.

“Century provided a reasonable bid that came in within 4.15% of my engineering estimate,” Robert H. Kompel, city of Glasgow director of public works, wrote in an April 13 memorandum.

"That being stated, we have the funds set aside in the Annual Paving Budget to cover the projected $225,506. However, it is also worth noting that the $225,506 is an estimate and, depending on the actual conditions we encounter, it is possible that the work may come in under, or even over, budget.”

The audit contract with ZurMuehlen & CO, at a total cost of $108,0000, will begin on July 1 and extend through June 30, 2023. That cost will not include additional work that may be required if the contractor discovers a defalcation or material irregularity. However, such additional services would require a contract amendment.

In other news, the council conducted first readings of City Ordinances 974, 975 and 976.

* Ordinance 974 would amend the city’s building code to provide minimum standards to safeguard life, health, property and general welfare of the public by regulating and controlling the methods and procedures for demolishing and disposing of building and structures.

* Ordinance 975 would amend the city’s zoning regulations for home based occupation.

* Ordinance 976 would amend home occupation license and home occupation requirements for home based businesses.
