HS Ice Dawgs Close Out Regular Season

The final weekend of the regular season for the high school Glasgow Ice Dawgs came with a good news/bad news split. The good news: both Glasgow goalies notched a win. The bad news? The wins came as each goalie was suited up to fill in the crease for the visiting Havre Ice Hawks.

Havre's goalie was out of the lineup for the high school team, playing in Bozeman for the girls' 19U team in their state tournament. Not wanting to miss any ice time, Glasgow suited up their back-up goalie in each game and sent them to the opposing team's bench.

Aidin Wilkowski secured the 4-3 win for the Ice Hawks in the first meeting between the two teams on Feb. 27, denying his Dawgs the W in one of their closest games of the year. Wilkowski faced 17 shots on his/Havre's net while Brayden Hansen saw 30 shots in net for Glasgow.

Havre took a two goal lead after the first period. Michael Hoyer cut their lead in half midway through the second on an assist from Tatum Hansen. Havre added two more goals before Colter Barnett found the back of the net to cut the Hawks lead in half, 4-2. B. Hansen shut out the Hawks in the third and Barnett scored again with help from Ian Peterson and T. Hansen, but the effort was not quite enough to claim the victory.

Havre had three infractions in the game, while Glasgow was sent to the penalty box four times. Lexten Fairclough served three penalties: slashing, first period; hooking, second period and interference, third period. Gage Sierfert served a tripping penalty in the first period.

In the second game of the day, B. Hansen was in net for the Hawks and earned the 10-2 win for the visitors, facing 28 shots on his net. Wilkowski faced 32 attempts by the Hawks on Glasgow's end of the ice.

Havre came out strong in the game, scoring four times in the first period, before Bailey Hansen, assist Barnett, netted a goal to put Glasgow on the board. Havre added a fifth goal before the buzzer sounded. Most of Glasgow's action came in the form of penalties in the game as they racked up all 26 of their penalty minutes in the opening period. Sam Knierim was called for head contact and misconduct, earning him a 2-and-10 in the sin bin. Ian Peterson was called for tripping and served two minutes. Siefert earned his own 2-and-10 on a check from behind and misconduct call.

Havre ran up the score in the second period, adding three goals to their side of the big board. Barnett lit the lamp for Glasgow with just over 10 minutes left in the game, but Havre had two more goals in them to end the game up 10-2.

The Ice Dawgs will travel to Missoula for their state tournament this weekend, Friday through Sunday, March. 5-7. Siefert, who has personally had his best year of skating, is nervous about the state tournament after a tough season, is positive about his team, saying, "...I think if we work like we can, we can have a good turn out at state. I think our goal is to show up and play to our full potential see if we can get things to click and have fun."
