A Thank You to My Community

Dear Northeast Montana,

This Friday, coming home from the District Tournament in Malta, Zora and I had car trouble. It was late; it was dark; the temperature was 8 degrees and falling. There were all the usual calculations: how far still to Hinsdale? (8 miles) How long does a very small person retain core body temperature? When will someone realize something is wrong? Unbeknownst to us, there under the cold stars, from the instant the car stopped, we were already held in a web of caring and concern that radiated out through the community as people noticed, spread the word, sent phone calls bouncing back and forth. A serious, potentially even dangerous, situation very rapidly downgraded to mildly inconvenient. So, I would like to take this time to sincerely thank each and every one of you... those about whose part in our little drama I eventually learned, as well as those of whose involvement I never became aware. But I also want to thank all of you who never knew about a little green Subaru by the road in the dark, but who every day make up part of the fabric of the community that insures that in this Place, We. Are. Never. Alone.

Thank you all,

Sierra Stoneberg-Holt

Valley County, Mont.
