After A Few Tough Games, Reds Secure Wins Against WP

The Glasgow Reds hosted the Havre Northstars on July 15 after traveling to Havre earlier this month to play what was expected to be a doubleheader game however turned into a one nine inning game due to weather. Though the weather provided different conditions in the July 15 home game, to ensure fair playing time against the two teams, only one nine-inning game was played at Connors Field in Glasgow. The Havre Northstars gained the lead early ultimately clinching the win, 10-1.

Mason Donaldson started the game on the mound for the Reds, pitching the first two innings of the game, allowing five hits and five runs, while striking out one and walking one. The first inning saw the Northstars score three runs, two of which were scored on an error made by second baseman JT Sprague. The Reds ended the first inning with a run of their own, courtesy of Tel Aune, due to a sacrifice fly by Kristian Price. The second inning saw an error by Calvin Bengochea allowing Northstar Kale Reno to advance to second and score two plays later due to Northstar Eli Colininjer grounding out. Northstar Quinn Reno added another score to Havre's score in the second inning, ending the inning 5-1. The Northstars would continue their scoring streak in the third and fourth inning, ending the fourth inning with a 9-1 led, despite the continued shifting of pitchers from the Reds. In addition to Donaldson, Rance Rhoads, Tatum Hansen, Keigan Ingram, Tel Aune, Kristian Price and Chase Guttenberg all took time on the mound during the nine-inning game. The Northstars secured the win after scoring a run in the top of the eighth, ending the game 10-1. Jordan Plummer went one for two at the plate to lead Reds in hits.

The Reds traveled to Laurel on July 17 for a double-header against the Dodgers, the first time the two teams have matched up since the beginning of the season. The first game saw the Reds fighting back after falling down by four runs in the seventh inning, however the comeback fell just short. After securing six runs in the top of the seventh, making the score 8 to 7, the Dodgers doubled and added two more runs to their score, defeating the Reds, 9 to 8. Jordan Plummer took the mound for the Reds, pitching five innings and allowed seven hits and seven runs, while Ingram and Aune closed out the game for the Reds. The Reds tallied 10 hits on the day, with Guttenberg, Bengochea and Aune all managing multiple hits.

The Reds watched their second game slip away early and were unable to recover in the 8 to 2 loss. An error by shortstop Price allowed Dodgers Keagan Thompson to take the lead right away in the first inning, and the Dodgers continued their scoring throughout the game. The Reds were unable to get on the board until the fifth inning, when they scored two runs courtesy of Donaldson and Aune. Chase Guttenberg took the loss for the Reds, pitching four and two-thirds innings, allowing seven runs on seven hits and striking out three. Riley Smith relieved Guttenberg, pitching 1.1 innings, allowing two hits and one run. Rhoads and Aune each collected one hit to lead the Reds.

After taking a day to regroup, the Reds traveled to Wolf Point on July 19 to take on the Yellowjackets in another late addition to the schedule. In the first game, the Reds took the game in the third inning when they scored four runs. Aune singled on his first pitch at bat allowing Plummer to score, and Guttenberg singled on the next play on a ground ball, advancing Riley Smith and Aune on the bases. Smith would go on to score due to an error by the Yellowjackets before Price was about to advance Aune due to a sacrifice fly. Bengochea would then single on the next play advancing Guttenberg, ending the inning 4-1. After scoring two more runs in the fourth inning, the Reds continued to bring in runs in the fifth courtesy of Ingram, Hoerster and Guttenberg. Rhoads was the winning pitcher, pitching for five innings, allowing one run on one hit while striking out 11. In total, the Reds achieved 11 hits, with Bengochea, Aune and Smith each collecting multiple hits.

The next game saw continued domination for the Reds, securing the win due to nine runs in the sixth inning. Hoerster, Walker Laumeyer, Price, Sprague and Bengochea each had RBIs to contribute to the high scoring 15-1 game. The Reds racked up eight hits, with Price, Guttenberg and Bengochea each having multiple hits. Price also went three for five at the plate to lead the team in hits. Ingram contributed to the win by pitching all six innings, only allowing one run.

The Reds will finish out their regular season on Friday, July 24, against the Glendive Blue Devils at Glendive and then will host the Miles City Mavericks at home on Sunday, July 26, before traveling to Billings for the District Tournament July 30 through Aug. 2.
