Renewing the Additional Levy For the Glasgow City-County Library

Dear Readers (pun intended)-

I am writing to request your support in the renewal of the "Additional Levy for the Glasgow City-County Library" in this year's June 2 mail-in election.

As an avid reader myself, I have been frequenting the Glasgow Library for over 30 years. I have always been impressed by the library's extensive inventory, and they almost always seem to have the books I'm looking for...and if they don't, the library staff tracks the book down through inter-library loan.

My wife and I, and our two boys, consider the library as one of the best things about Glasgow. Over the years, we have enjoyed Story Time, Lego League, the abundance of movies (necessary for long family road trips), magazines, books on CDs, the computer access, and of course, books. The website makes renewing items easy and is a great way to keep track of their many events.

My 10-year-old son Rowen recently acquired his own library card and is working his way through most of the young-adult book section. When I asked him, while writing this letter, "What are some things you like about the library besides books?" he said, "All the nice people who work there." The staff ARE great, and they are doing what they can with what they have, but any continued funding will make your library an even better place.

These Two (2) Mills per year (approximately $63,000) will be for fiscal year 2020-2021 through 2024-2025. This will be a renewal of the 2-Mills per year levy that was passed five years ago. This money has been used for much-needed updates to the building, along with helping to provide all these valuable services to Glasgow and the surrounding communities in Valley County. These mills would result in a financial impact in 2020 of approximately $2.70 on a home with a taxable market value of $100,000, and $5.40 on a home with a taxable market value of $200,000. For our family, this is a small price compared to the money we save on books and movies on a weekly basis. We are lucky to have such a wonderful library in our small community.

If you have never utilized the library's services, or have never been there, I invite you to go check it out before you vote and go and explore all the things they have to offer with just a free library card.

So please, Valley County, when you complete your civic duty and mail in/drop off your ballots, please fill in the oval "For Authorizing the board to make the levy" for the Glasgow City County Library, where they "Strive to inspire lifelong learning, advance knowledge, and strengthen our community."

Thanks for your support.

Sincerly,

Marc Kloker, patron of the Glasgow City-County Library

Glasgow, Mont.
