Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

GHS Grad, Fransen, Recognized for Offensive Skills on the Field

Glasgow High School 2018 alum Alex Fransen was named Offensive Scout of the Week for Dickinson State University, in Dickinson, N.D., for week eight of the football season. The recognition, which is chosen by the coaches each week of the season, was given to Fransen due to his hard work, dedication and offensive skills which helped keep the score close against the team's loss, 23-22, to Valley City State University on Oct. 26.

Upon hearing he was chosen as the Offensive Scout of the Week, Fransen admits the recognition had little impact on him. "I'm not one for individual awards," he stated. When the team was crowned NSAA Conference Champs after beating Mayville State University, 63-13, on Nov. 9 , on the other hand, Fransen admits that accomplishment meant more to him than the individual recognition. "It was really exciting to win because I strive for team awards. It meant a lot to me," he explained.

Fransen has only been actively playing on the field for part of the season, however, he continues to give everything he has at practice. In his short time on the field, he has been instrumental in being there for his team and playing positions necessary to help make the team succeed. In his first season, Fransen played on the defensive side and made the switch to the offensive side this year at the request of his coaches. "The coaches asked me if I would be willing to play tight-end this year. I said yes because I want to do what benefits the team the most," stated Fransen.

Fransen is adamant that his greatest accomplishment so far as a student athlete at Dickinson State is being a part of the team. "The culture is like family. It reminds me of home," he told the Courier. He is currently pursuing a degree in criminal justice and hopes to continue to play football through the rest of his college career.
