Laurel Dodgers Sweep Glasgow Reds In DoubleHeader

The Glasgow Reds traveled to Laurel on July 9 to play a double-header against the Laurel Dodgers. With a home-field advantage, the Dodgers swept the Reds, 5 to 2 in the first game and 19 to 0 in the second game.

In the first game, the Dodgers got on the board right away with two runs in the bottom of the first inning, and the Reds decided to tie it up during the top of the fifth inning. However, Laurel didn’t want the chance of being beat, so they scored three runs in the sixth inning, securing the win.

Despite out-hitting the Dodgers six to five, the Reds could not make the trip around the bases. Gavin Adkins took the loss for the Reds, lasting five and a third innings, allowing five hits and five runs while striking out two.

Dylan Nieskens, Tel Aune, Kaden Fossum, Darrin Wersal, Chase Guttenberg and Bryce Legare each collected one hit to lead the Reds. The Reds also did not commit a single error in the game compared to the Dodgers’ five.

The second game of the evening did not get any better for the Reds. The Dodgers scored nine runs in two separate innings, the first and the fourth, winning the game 19 to 0.

The Reds could not hit the balls thrown by Dodgers’ pitcher Colton Ludwig, as he only allowed two hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out three. Dodger Kade Mcllvain threw one inning in relief and recorded the last three outs to earn the save. Price and Fossum each managed one hit to lead the Reds in hitting however were not able to make their way around the bases.

Chase Guttenberg took the loss for the Reds, allowing seven hits and nine runs over one inning, striking out one and walking one. Noah Lipszyc, Mark Eliason, Cale Swanson, Bryce Legare and Rance Rhoads all took to the mound to try and control the Dodgers’ offense.
