Remember Resoling Shoes

How long ago has it been since you even thought about having your shoes resoled? Some people (mostly men) still have cowboy boots resoled but it is not as common as it used to be. Just maybe because there are not many shoe repair shops in our area.

I remember going with my Mom to a couple of them located in Glasgow. I was not the individual carrying the pocket book, nor did I have to worry about those things in that era, but I am sure there were many services rendered in leather work by these shops. Leather was the material in most all shoes, handbags and luggage so shoes were not the only thing repaired.

I think many shops also sold shoes in the later days. A few of the shops that I can recall hearing about were the Wambeke Shoe Shop, Champion Shoe Shop, Arnold’s Shoe Shop, Smitty’s Shop and Glenn Millers repair. Several of these served out of the same location. The location that sticks in my mind was located under the Smith Clinic building, or what is now Table for Six.

I am sure that the shoes repaired were for all—men, women and children, probably not many tennis shoes at that time but I am sure advertisements listed the repair of women’s heels also.

Ah, days of the past and the changes that comes about. Let’s keep REMEMBERING.
