Lady Scotties Kick Off Season with Pair of Wins

The Lady Scotties kicked off the 2018-2019 basketball season with a 2-0 winning streak. They hosted Roundup in their first game of the season on Dec. 6, and traveled to Baker to face off against the Lady Spartans on Dec. 7. "The win against Roundup was a nice one for us," said head coach Travis Nielsen. "They are a well-coached, hard-working, disciplined team." He explained that the win against Baker was nice too, although they don't have the same caliber of players overall.

Nielsen attributes the team's success to preparation and hard work, mostly. It's also beneficial that most of the current roster has been playing the game together for quite a while. "They play well together as a team," explained Nielsen.

"We also tell the girls it doesn't matter who you're playing," he said of their success so far. "It can be a Class C team or a Class A team. They have to play their best against everybody. And, we need to stay humble."

Anika Peters and Riley Noser led the Lady Scotties in scoring against Roundup with Peters adding 15 points and Noser scoring 10. The girls did a great job with their free throws, successfully sinking 75 percent of their attempts.

In Baker, Keely Fossum had a great performance, leading her team to the win with 20 points. Taylor Pederson contributed with double digits as well, scoring 10 points in the contest.

With a noticeable chemistry on the court between the girls, the rest of the season promises to be successful as well.

The Lady Scotties will host North Country on Friday, Dec. 14, and will be on the road to Sidney to take on the Lady Eagles on Saturday, Dec. 15.
