Praise for Glasgow School Youth

Dear Editor,

Originally, I wanted to send this note to Superintendent Connors. Then I thought maybe the Board should also get a copy. Really though, the parents and community of Glasgow should hear this since it involves them too. It's sadly rare for schools and communities to get positive feedback, yet that is what this letter is all about.

Since my retirement from Saco 2.5 years ago, I've been helping Glasgow School District with driving students around the state for various sporting events, activities, and conventions. I've driven from Butte to Bismarck and nearly everywhere in between. I've driven nearly every sports team, a couple of field trips, and some music activities. I've driven TSA, BPA, FCCLA, JMG, Speech and Drama, and to the airport for the DC trip. I really don't drive very much, mostly only when they've needed me, but it seems I've been able to log a lot of miles behind a cruiser's windshield.

I want the District and the community to know just how well-behaved the students are on these trips. They are always respectful to me, saying "thank you" when they exit the bus and they'll even invite me to join them at their table when we stop to eat if they notice I have no one to sit with. In some cases, especially with the very late returns from great distances, I've even had students sit up front with me and visit. They'll ask about my life, my family, future plans I might have and just general conversations. They'll joke with me and assist me when needed.

The coaches and advisors are vigilant about making sure kids are quiet, on-time, respectful, and that they clean up the bus when we return. In all, it makes driving, sometimes very long trips and days, enjoyable.

The District for many years supported my efforts as a teacher, and I've enjoyed giving back to it by helping out with driving activities. It's been my honor. Unfortunately, Robin and I are moving south of Roundup next month and so my abilities to assist the District will come to an end.

Yet, I want the Board, the staff, coaches, advisers, parents, and the community to know that they are all doing an amazing job at raising young adults. Glasgow is represented well throughout the state and can certainly be proud.

Well done to all of you. Well done.

Sincerely,

Gordon Hahn

Saco, Mont.
