Glasgow's Tess Fahlgren brought the Art Mobile of Montana to Valley County students recently, beginning with a stop at the Frazer School on Feb. 8. Fahlgren spoke to more than a dozen children, sharing works of art from around the state with a presentation that is part show-and-tell, part how-to, part art appreciation. The kids were clearly engaged as Fahlgren invited them to guess at the materials used to make different artworks and told them a bit about the processes used to create them. They were even allowed to touch a few of the pieces.

Fahlgren also spoke to around 12 homeschool students in Glasgow at Wheatgrass Arts & Gallery on Feb. 9.

The Art Mobile circuit begins with the school year in September and continues until springtime. I spoke to Fahlgren via telephone on Feb. 12 from St. Labre Indian Catholic High School in Ashland, Mont. Asked how many schools she's visited thus far in her annual Odyssey, Fahlgren was at a loss, estimating more than 20 stops. Last year, she visited over 65 schools.

To contact the Art Mobile of Montana, write to Tess Fahlgren at [email protected], or call 406-217-4418.
