D&G Celebrates Diamond Anniversary

In 1957, brothers Darrell and Gene Morehouse opened the doors to their new sporting goods store. Originally located at the site of Holly and Co. in downtown Glasgow, they moved to their present location on 2nd Ave in 1962. Darrell Morehouse (Dale’s son) said of his father and uncle, “They just really loved hunting and fishing and there weren’t any good sporting goods stores in town at the time, so they opened their own.”

In 1963, Dale purchased Gene’s share of the store, and in 1976, built a new store/building at the present location. At the same time they added the western clothing apparel to the store and changed the name to D&G Sports and Western. In 1980, Darrell returned to work for his dad, and bought the business in 1982. Darrell’s son Sam Morehouse currently works at the store, making D&G a three-generation business in Glasgow.

Darrell asked to thank the community for their support, “We have supported Glasgow very well, and Glasgow has supported us.” He also wanted to thank the great employees he has had throughout the years, and especially Mark Combs who has worked at D&G for the past 35 years. “I enjoy the business,” said Darrell, “Glasgow has been good to us.”

D&G’s anniversary sale will be held this weekend June 24-25. Call 228-9363 for more information.
