Glasgow Ice Dawgs Host Squirt Jamboree

Squirts Finish 2-1-1, U14 Girls Hit the Road to North Dakota

The first competitive event for the Ice Dawg Squirt's 2015-2016 season was held this last weekend at the Valley Event Center. Teams from Great Falls and Missoula traveled here to participate in the jamboree.

The puck dropped for first game on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. against Great Falls. This would result in the only loss of the weekend for the squirts with a score of 4-5. The second game for the Dawgs was later Saturday evening at 6 p.m. Glasgow tied Missoula with a score of 2-2.

Sunday brought even more improvement for the team with wins over the same teams they competed against the previous day. Glasgow defeated Great Falls 2-0 and came away with a 5-1 win over Missoula as well.

Head coach for the squirts, Kent Hubbard, said the kids played well for their first games of the season – especially with six first-year skaters. "The whole team played really well, especially with them only getting nine practices in," said Hubbard. "Really, it was a good time for them to learn how to play their positions and work as a team," he explained further. The squirts will be playing this weekend with home games at the Valley Event Center.

Also playing their first games of the season were the U14 girls. The girls play in the North Dakota Amateur Hockey Association, so most of their travels take them across the border to the east. Despite playing a great game against Dickinson on Saturday, the girls were defeated 5-2. They came away with a loss again the second day against Mandan with a final score of 10-0. "We were just outmatched that game," said head coach Paul Provencher. "They played really well. The whole team worked hard."

The U14 girls are looking forward to some home games this weekend as Dickinson and Crosby travel here to hit the ice.
