Valley Bank Wins Minors Tourney

Majors Tournament Starts This Weekend

When I saw pictures of the Valley Bank minors team with their trophies, I had flashbacks. It seems like just yesterday my own daughter was playing baseball for Valley Bank and her team was celebrating their first-place win.

The Cal Ripken minor league tournament was held this last weekend at Jeff Jurgens Field. Valley Bank eventually won the tournament, but they had to play Hi-Line Ford three times before it was over. They played their first game on Friday against McDonald's and outscored them by just one run with a final score of 7-6. Saturday afternoon, they suffered their only loss against the tough Hi-Line Ford team with a score of 5-4. On Sunday, they were matched up against Ezzie's and prevailed with a score of 15-4. By this time in the tournament, Hi-Line Ford was undefeated. That meant Valley Bank would have to play them twice and win both games to earn the title of champions. They managed to do just that, outscoring Hi-Line Ford 15-4 in the first game and 20-6 in the second. When it was all said and done, Valley Bank claimed first place, Hi-Line Ford second place, and Ezzie's third place.

The Cal Ripken majors tournament starts this Thursday at Jeff Jurgens Field, with the first game scheduled at 6 p.m.
