Glasgow, Frazer, Hinsdale Win JJMT Championships

The Glasgow Hoop Stars – a group of sixth-grade girls basketball players – carried the torch for the home teams at last weekend's 17th annual Jeff Jurgens Memorial Basketball Tournament.

The Stars beat the Regina Jr. Cougars, 26-23, in the sixth-grade bracket at East Side School to gain Glasgow one of the 12 championships contested for among 84 teams from the fourth grade to high school ages.

Coach Heather Hartsock's Stars included Rachelle Glaser, Alexys Mann, Keeli Harris, Davyn Myrick, Summer Garfield, Hannah Toavs, Aubre Hartsock and Meranda Bechel.

"It might have been one of the most successful tournaments we've had," JJMT organizer Tom Schmitt told The Courier. "We had really large crowds at every location. I saw smiles on the faces of the people at each of the locations I visited, and things went well at each of the locations."

Two other Courierland teams won titles: the Frazer Eastern All Stars high school boys and the Hinsdale Raiders sixth grade boys.

Coach Levi Capdeville's Hinsale Raiders included Walker Albus, Aiden Albus, Wes Leatherberry, Jon Taylor, Jack Boone, Jeremy Long Tree, Trey Johnson, Loden Idler and Beau Simonson. They beat Havre, 43-25, for the title.

Coach Mike Cole's Frazer All Stars included Korbin Cole. Nathaniel Clark, Saunder St. Marks, Daulton Holecek, Traycer Wilson, Pat Hardy, Preston Baldry, Madirius Scott, Xander Little Thunder, Aaron Ackerman and Vergil McCormick.

This year's JJMT suggests that Frazer High's boys basketball program could be in for some more good seasons. The Frazer All Stars beat the Frazer Bearcubs, 77-74, in the championship game.
