Plans Progress For Mobile Home Park In Glasgow

Project Could Help Ease Local Housing Crunch

The housing crunch has been felt in Glasgow over the past few years. With the city growing slowly but steadily, a need for more housing will continue.

Recently, the Glasgow Planning Board approved a conditional use permit for an additional mobile home park that could help address the need. The new mobile home park will be located behind the Northern Lights Casino in Glasgow.

It took some time for the owner, Burt Johnston, to get all the requirements for the permit, but earlier in the month he was finally approved. The location was previously used for a mobile home park but has been vacant for a few years. Johnston was able to gather approval from over 75 percent of property owners who live nearby, as well as gather all the plans for the future lots.

Director of Public Works Bob Kompel said that the planning board approved the site for 30 units, but Johnston’s current plans include 21. Johnston was also able to prove that all the funding for new units would be available.

While Johnston was unavailable for comment, Kompel explained that the plans included lots that would be rented to mobile home owners, and Johnston would maintain the pump house for the septic system, which is slightly unusual. A study was done, which found that some improvements were still needed with sewer and water lines at the location.

The report given to the planning board recommended the conditional use permit, and it was accepted on March 4.
