Tailor Made Memories

Remember when Glasgow had businesses that did tailoring?

Friedl’s Mens Wear comes to mind. It seems that the art of tailoring is rather a thing of the past, but that was a customer service at Friedl’s.

You men will have to correct me if I am wrong, but I think when men of the area purchased a suit there it could be tailored to fit you. Not only were the pants shortened if needed, but sleeves could also be shortened or lengthened if excess fabric allowed. Maybe a side seam or two could be taken in or let out, darts added, any of those little tailor secrets that took away from the store-bought look.

Then there was Flaherty’s Tailor Shop. I never knew what their specialty was, but I do know they did zippers, etc. However, a “tailor” shop makes me think they did more in that line. I believe they were located in the present day Milk River Realty building.

I also know that Adrian’s and maybe other women’s apparel stores employed a seamstress to do that not-so-minor tailoring.

While I am remembering Friedl’s, how many of you remember the scale that was located right in front of the building? It was located outside of the building, not inside. Did you have to feed it a penny to operate it?
