Speech & Drama Gets It Done Against Baker, Huntley Project

The Glasgow High School Speech and Drama Team competed in the first meet of its season on Saturday in Sidney and came home with a first place Class B drama trophy. Thirteen schools participated in this meet with Glasgow edging out Huntley Project and Baker to take first. The GHS Speech team placed third.

“Experience showed, as two four-year seniors both came home with first place medals,” coach Sharon LaBonty said.

Kylie Cook placed first in Serious Solo and Sija Laffin took first in Serious Oral Interpretation of Literature.

Individual placements in Drama were:

• Pantomime : Machaela Cathey – third.

• Humorous Duo: Rachel Overby and James Fauth – fourth.

• Serious Duo: Kat Geer and Kyla Harrington – fourth.

• Serious Solo: Amanda Kresel – sixth.

Individual placement in Speech were:

• Humorous Oral Interpretation: Maria Morris – seventh; Ember Barnett – eighth.

• Serious Oral Interpretation: Rachel Sigmundsted – third.

Also competing at Sidney were Andy Brandt in HOI and Ethan Jamba in SOI.

“We were a small team with only 13 people participating,” coach John LaBonty said. “We just got three from cross country, but there are people still involved in volleyball and football that will be joining us soon.”

Next Saturday, the team will be at home, hosting a day-long workshop by renowned Broadway actor and professional mime, Bill Bowers. They have invited other Hi-Line schools to join them for this fun and educational day.

Competition continues in Circle on Nov. 16, when The Coaches LaBonty expect to have a full team fielded.

Glasgow will host the Montana State Forensic Class B-C Tournament on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1. This meet requires 60 judges each round with six rounds.

“Although we will be contacting people soon, we hope that anyone that would like to volunteer to judge will give one us a call at 228-9208,” Sharon LaBonty said.
