Twyla Anderson, of Opheim, and Norm Girard, of Glasgow, were among the six Montanans honored this year. The Governor of Montana Steve Bullock announced in a July 2 press conference his plan for reopening schools in the fall. Citing the reliance students and parents have on schools for nutrition, socialization and education, and the health benefits of having children in schools, the governor and Lt. Similar to the rest of Montana, the school plan will also follow a three-phased approach to reopening that aligns with the same phase as the state. So, as the state...

  • Peace Officers In Montana

    Jul 8, 2020

Dear Editor, As a nation, state and society we are living in unprecedented times. As peace officer leaders in the State of Montana, we feel it is our obligation to speak about the unnecessary injuries and deaths, suffered by any persons, at the hands of law enforcement officers who fail or refuse to live by our peace officer code of ethics. We collectively acknowledge that incidents of excessive use of force, violence and misconduct are unacceptable and contradictory to our professional...

  • We Are Not Alone

    Jul 8, 2020

Dear Editor, You may recall that I wrote an article a few weeks ago that exposed the attempt by the Montana Department of Natural Resources (DNRC) to illegally give our ranchers' vested stockwater rights to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). Well, we are not alone! I just read an article in the June 20, 2020, Tri-State Livestock News by the Idaho Farm Bureau Federation (IFBF) that detailed what was happening with stockwater rights in Idaho. First, a bit of history. In 1987 the Idaho Water...

  • Wear Masks When Social Distancing Is Not Possible

    Jul 8, 2020

Dear Editor, We, the undersigned, are as concerned about the rising number of COVID cases and public health as we are with the economic health of the businesses we represent. As we watch many states around the country mandating face masks for everyone and rolling back reopening, our Associations are convinced that reverting back to Phase 1 restrictions would bring irreparable harm to thousands of Montana businesses and the tens of thousands of Montana citizens that they employ. President of the...

Everyone has their stereotypes when it comes to homeschoolers....raising goats, little house on the prairie braids, awkward conversationalists. Yet, here we are with everyone around the world finding themselves in this same style of education. First off, I would like to give a shout out to all the public school teachers and commend them for their extra effort and time that they invested these last few months. I have the upmost respect for them. They had to learn and grow together with their students, and quickly figure out a way to help...

    A.J. Etherington, The Courier|Jul 8, 2020

The Glasgow Thunder stayed home this past weekend, but did not have to host the latest West of the East meet. In total, six teams made the trip or stayed home to partake in the Fourth of July competition in Glasgow. According to Thunder head coach Ethan Shrader, the meet was a success for the team as athletes shaved seconds off their time, completed races...

Game action started off against the Yellowjackets early in the first inning when Tel Aune scored as a r...
