Scottie Softball Picks Up First Conference Win

Record 4-4-1 Overall

The Scottie softball team picked up their first conference win of the 2024 season at the Lewistown Invite this past weekend when they defeated Shelby 17-0 April 13. Glasgow tied Lockwood 12-12 and defeated Stillwater 11-0 April 12 at the Invite. They also picked up a win over Class A Sidney April 9, winning 14-12 on the road.

In Sidney, the Eagles put up two runs in the first inning before Glasgow cut the lead in half in the second. The Scotties scored four times in the third before the Eagles answered with two runs. Glasgow put up another five in the fourth but Sidney answered with five of their own in the bottom of the fifth.

Glasgow scored twice in the sixth while holding Sidney to one run in the bottom. Both teams put up two runs in the seventh inning.

Glasgow outhit Sidney 15-11 with both teams committing three errors.

Riley Clampitt had two hits with one home run, two RBIs, one run and one stolen base. Berkley Hillman put up three hits, one RBI, three runs and a stolen base. Tatum Nyquist notched two hits with one double, two RBIs and four runs. Halle Hunter had two hits, an RBI and two runs.

Hayden Green put two hits and three RBIs in the books. CharLee McColly had two hits, two runs and four stolen bases. Tessa Miller added one hit with three RBIs. Macy Martin had a hit, an RBI and one run.

Martin spent 5-and-one-third innings in the pitcher’s circle for the win, with four earned runs and eight strikeouts. Brynn Donaldson earned the save after pitching two-thirds innings. She struck out two and gave up no earned runs.

In Lewistown, the Scotties faced a drop-dead time limit of 1 hour 50 minutes for their games.

Glasgow was leading 12-10 after five innings in their first game against Lockwood, who tied it at 12-12 in the top of the sixth. When the Scotties went to bat, there was less than a minute left on the clock. Assistant Coach Brian Burleson said, “We have zero doubt the girls could have pushed a run across in the bottom of the 6th, but we’ll never know.”

Glasgow outhit Lockwood 14 to 12 and had four errors to Lockwood’s three.

Clampitt and Ella Eggebrecht led the Scotties, both with three hits and two RBIs. Clampitt had a double on one hit and added one run to the books. Miller had two hits with a double, two runs and two RBIs. Green added two hits, two runs and two RBIs while Martin put up two hits, three runs and a stolen base.

Hillman had a double, one run, one RBI and one stolen base. Nyquist notched two runs and one RBI. Donaldson added one hit, McColly an RBI and Kelbi Wersal one run.

Martin pitched three innings with eight errors and three strikeouts while Donaldson pitched three innings with four errors and three strikeouts.

The Scotties faced Stillwater next and racked up six runs in the first and five in the second for the 11-0 win. Glasgow held their errors to three while Stillwater had four. The Scotties outhit their opponents 12-3 in the game.

Every player on the Glasgow squad notched a hit in the game, led by Green, Clampitt and Eggebrecht all with two hits. Green also had two runs and two RBIs while Clampitt added two runs and an RBI. Eggebrecht notched a run and an RBI.

Miller had a double and one run; Nyquist one hit and two runs; McColly one hit, two runs and a stolen base; Hillman, one hit, one run, one RBI and a stolen base; Martin one hit and one RBI, and Brynlie Boreson a hit and an RBI.

Freshman Boreson earned her first varsity start and win, pitching a three-hit shutout. She threw 59 pitches over five innings in the circle with seven strikeouts and zero walks.

Glasgow faced Shelby in their final matchup in Lewistown, cruising to a 17-0 win with 15 runs in the first and two in the second, ending the game after three innings. The Scotties racked up 14 hits with no errors while Shelby had zero hits and five errors.

Green had three hits, one run and two RBIs. Miller added two doubles, three runs and two RBIs while Martin had two hits with a double, three runs and an RBI. Caylen Jankowski added two hits, a run and two RBIs while Wersal put up two hits and two runs.

Nyquist added a double, two runs and three RBIs. Donaldson put a hit, two runs and an RBI in the books. Eggebrecht notched a hit and two runs while Clampitt put up a run and an RBI.

Martin earned the pitching win with two innings in the circle and four strikeouts. Wersal closed out the game with two strikeouts in the final inning.

Glasgow now holds a 4-4-1 overall record, 1-4 in the Eastern B/C.

The Scotties were in Havre to take on the Blue Ponies for JV and varsity action April 16 but scores were unavailable at press time.

Glasgow hosts Miles City at Sullivan Park at 3:30 p.m. Friday, April 19.

The annual Scottie Youth Camp for ages 5 to 14 will be held noon to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at Sullivan Park.
