Ice Dawgs Drop Two in Miles City

The Ice Dawgs fell to second place in the BSHS East division with two losses to Miles City on the road this past weekend. Glasgow fell 6-5 Friday and 9-3 Saturday. The Dawgs hold a 12-2 record with 24 points, tied for third in the BSHS League.

Mason Hunter, from Bode Barnett, put Glasgow on the board first Friday night but the Generals tied it on a power play and took the l2-1 lead before the buzzer sounded.

Miles City found the back of the net first in the second, just 29 seconds into the period. Tristan Powell cut the lead to one goal with help from Tavin Boland before Peyton Smith hit a power play goal from Bode Barnett to knot the game at 3-3 heading into intermission.

The Generals scored twice to take a 5-3 lead in the third before Lex Fairclough, assist Smith, put the puck past the Miles City goaltender to bring the Dawgs within one. Barnett tied it up with help from Boland and Charlie Cornwell with 4:33 left to play. Miles City won the game with a goal with 18 seconds left to play.

Glasgow outshot Miles City 35-24 with Dawgs goalie Jacob Potter turning in a .750 save percentage. The Dawgs went 1-for-2 on the man advantage where Miles City went 3-for-6 on the power play. Fairclough, 2-and-10 boarding, first period; Zevin Kummerfeldt, minor, first; Smith, hooking, second; Cornwell, tripping, second, and Boland, high-sticking, third, served time in the sin bin for Glasgow.

Saturday, the Generals rushed out to a 3-0 lead in the first period before the Dawgs hit for two goals in the last 30 seconds of the period. Hansen and Cornwell both scored to bring Glasgow within one goal.

Miles City scored twice in the first half of the second period for a 3-goal lead before Hansen brought the Dawgs within two. However, the Generals owned the third period, scoring four more goals for the win over Glasgow.

The Dawgs again outshot the Generals – 36-26 – with Potter turning in a .654 save percentage. Glasgow was unable to convert on their one man advantage while the Generals went 2-for-3 on the power play. The Dawgs infractions came from Cornwell, first; Boland, second, Kummerfelt, second, and Glasgow (team), third.

Glasgow hosts Billings this weekend. The Dawgs will host the Bulls Friday, Feb. 16, at 7 p.m. for Senior Night honoring Fairclough, Tatum Hansen, Smith, Connor Koski and Kummerfeldt. The two teams face off again Saturday, Feb. 17, at 11 a.m.
