Law Enforcement Report

For the week of Jan. 15 through 20, there were six motor vehicle stops, one report of a dead deer, two reports of loose livestock, one report of a loose dog, one report of a howling dog and one report of a missing dog.

Monday, Jan. 15

2246 – A public assist call was recorded. A deputy advised MHP marked the vehicle on the 12th.

Tuesday, Jan. 16

1034 – Caller stated that while she was at a business, another driver backed into her vehicle. They got out and exchanged information. The driver of the other vehicle told the reporting party to take her vehicle to the local body shop. The reporting party stated she did just that and wanted to know if this needed to be reported.

1359 – Received a call from an anonymous male reporting a white van parked on the north side of the highway. He said people are going in and out of the van. He felt this as suspicious. A deputy was notified who was unable to locate the van.

1753 – Caller reported the top light is no longer flashing on the phone tower on the Bentonite Road. It’s usually flashing so he thought he could let someone know about it. A deputy was notified who stated it might be a phone tower, so dispatch contacted the provider.

Wednesday, Jan. 17

0644 – Received a call from the clerk for a local school. She stated she got an email that said explosives have been placed in the school. Dispatch advised the reporting party they had seen this on the news this morning and several schools around the state of Montana had received the same email. The caller stated a bunch of other schools are listed in there. Per the school’s protocol, she needed to call dispatch.

1004 – Reporting party advised he was just walking his dog by his apartment building when another dog ran out and attacked his dog. He said his dog is alive but moving slowly and has a big gash on his neck. He said the owner came out and apologized. The reporting party didn’t know if it was supposed to be reported or not. An officer was notified and would make contact with the caller.

1545 – Caller reported there’s vehicles parked in the middle of 8th Street and Park Street by the school.

1739 – Reporting party is missing a checkbook with a coin purse. She provided a description. She doesn’t have any idea where she may have lost it and it’s been missing for about four days now. Dispatch checked in with the officer who advised it wasn’t turned into their office.

Thursday, Jan. 18

0438 – Reporting party stated her vehicle was stolen from their driveway. It was last seen at about 2230 last night. There are no weapons or other valuables inside. Both sets of keys are in the house, and the vehicle was not locked. The caller did not see tracks leaving as it is snowing pretty good. At 0856 the reporting party called back and stated her and her husband went looking for the vehicle and found it on Airport Road. They will wait for an officer to get there.

0759 – Employee with the Valley County Road Department called in an abandoned vehicle. The vehicle is on the right of way and is concerned about snow removal with the vehicle there. The vehicle has been there since Jan. 2, when a deputy had gotten a hold of the registered owner, who stated the transmission had gone out but would be moving it as soon as he can get someone to help him move it. Dispatch called and left a message for the registered owner. He said he would try to get some equipment started and go get the vehicle.

1016 – Dispatch received a call from a male who said the storage doors at a storage location are open. He stated several of the doors are open on the building, The contact person later stated her husband was at the storage unit and someone has gotten into almost all of the units. A female is working on calling the renters but would like a deputy to respond. At 1126, a deputy advised he is still on scene and will remain for awhile. So far nothing looks like it has been stolen.

1408 – Reporting party called in stating he hasn’t lived in St. Marie since 2021. He stated that someone broke into his unit and did something with his water, then removed the water meter. Now he has received a bill for the water there as of July 2021. Dispatch advised an officer will call back.

1728 – Dispatch received an abandoned call. The number was called back and a recorded message was reached for the Center for Disease Control concerning a survey.

2043 – Caller reported that a pickup just almost did a 360 in front of the depot where they park their vehicles. A description of the vehicle was provided as well as direction of travel. She wasn’t able to give a description of the driver.

Friday, Jan. 19

2225 – Southeast Montana Dispatch in Miles City said they just received a call from Holy Rosary in Miles City about an animal bite that occurred in Frazer. She was patched up with a deputy and an email was sent to the Valley County Health Department.

2225 – Reporting party called and said her daughter’s car had a flat tire and her husband was trying to change it. She said cars are flying by and not slowing down. She is worried someone will hit the car. She wants an officer to do traffic control. A little while later, reporting party called back stating the tire change was complete and they no longer needed an officer.

Saturday, Jan. 20

1532 – Caller requested to speak with an officer because her husband has a protection order against her out of Richland County. She said that he is attempting to move in with her at a residence in Oswego. A deputy was notified of the call.

1833 – An officer advised they are leaving the vehicle. The hood flew up while driving and they cannot get it back down.
