Scottie Volleyball Improves To 5-2 In Conference Play

The Scottie volleyball team was on the road last week: in Sidney Oct. 5 to take on the Class A Eagles and in Harlem Oct. 7 for a conference match up against the Wildcats. Glasgow fell to Sidney in three before coming back Saturday to down Harlem in three sets. The Scotties now hold a 5-2 conference record, 6-5 overall.

The Scotties lost 13-25, 14-25, 22-25 to a strong Eagles squad. Head coach Brooke Martin said, “Sidney was another tough match but a really good growing experience to learn how to judge when to be aggressive and when to make safer choices on plays.”

Glasgow put up four aces, 18 kills, 13 assists, seven blocks and 53 digs in Sidney. Hayden Green led in aces and blocks with two and four, respectively. Tatum Nyquist had eight kills while Macy Martin led in assists with eight helpers. Joely Chappell had 13 digs for the Scotties.

Glasgow’s JV team lost to the Sidney JV team in five games, 22-25, 19-25, 15-12, 15-10, 5-15, while the C squad dropped their match in three sets, 16-25, 19-25, 9-15.

In conference play Saturday, Glasgow earned a 25-15, 25-13, 25-12 victory with seven aces, 28 kills, 24 assists, seven blocks and 39 digs.

Green led again in aces and blocks with four of each. Nyquist was the kills leader with 10 and Martin continued her assists leader streak with 22. Halle Hunter and Chappell both put 10 digs on the stats sheet.

“Harlem was great. The girls needed a win. They have played so many difficult opponents through the middle of their season and improved so much but it’s easy to lose sight of the gains if you aren’t winning,” Coach Martin told the Courier. “Tatum is swinging really well. Hayden and Gina [Page] and Halle are blocking great; the freshman especially have improved there all season. Macy is playing great defense and is really improving her quicker sets. Jojo is all around fantastic – she is so fast and has no quit in her. Tess [Miller] and Ella [Eggebrecht] are getting much more comfortable and passing well.”

The Scottie JV won their match against the Wildcats in four games, 5-17, 25-13, 8-15, 15-13 while the C squad took their match to five sets but lost 26-24, 18-25, 8-15, 15-11, 10-15.The Scottie C team had 17 aces, 14 kills, seven assists, two blocks and 39 digs. The JV team also notched a win Oct. 2 when they hosted the Nashua Porcupines. The Scotties won in three sets 25-13, 25-10, 25-20.
