Scottie VB Falls to Warriors

Glasgow's volleyball team hit the court against the Fairview Warriors Sept. 30 to cap off a long homecoming weekend. The Scotties faced off against a strong team, dropping the match in three sets 15-20, 22-25, 20-25. Glasgow's record stands at 4-2, 5-4 overall after the loss, putting them in third in District 2B standings. The Scotties sit behind an undefeated Wolf Point team and 6-1 Fairview, while ahead of Malta, 2-4; Harlem, 1-5, and Poplar, 0-6.

Fairview rushed out to a 9-2 lead over Glasgow with good play and hard hits. A Glasgow timeout resulted in some more scoring for the home team but the Warriors took the first set with precision hitting.

Glasgow fell behind 5-12 early in the second set but hard work and hustle brought them within 2 points late in the set 19-21. The Warriors won by only three in the middle game.

The Scotties led 9-4 in the third but a Warriors' timeout reset the momentum and the visitors closed the gap to 10-8. With Glasgow down 18-22, the home team called another timeout but scored only twice more before Fairview hit 25 points for the win.

"Fairview is VERY strong. Their setter is fantastic and they have multiple hitters who can put the ball down," Head Coach Brooke Martin explained. "That being said we definitely didn't have our best match on Saturday. The girls ALWAYS give 120 percent effort but as a young team sometimes we struggle with confidence and knowing we can beat these teams that are older and powerful. But we will keep working on that stuff through the next few weeks heading into tournaments."

Glasgow put up five aces, 21 kills, 12 assists, nine blocks and 65 digs in the match while Fairview had 11 aces, 23 kills, 23 assists, six blocks and 30 digs.

Hayden Green led the Scotties in aces with three and in blocks with seven. Tatum Nyquist notched 11 of Glasgow's kills while Macy Martin had 11 of the team's assists. Gina Page put 18 digs on the stats sheet.

Glasgow's JV team won their match in three sets 25-21, 25-10, 15-9. The JV team also hosted the Nashua Porcupines Monday, but scores were unavailable at press time.

The Scotties are on the road this week with matches in Sidney and Harlem. Glasgow will play the Eagles Thursday, Oct. 5, with the C, JV and varsity squads hitting the court against the Class A Eagles in Sidney. Saturday, Oct. 7, Glasgow travels to Harlem for C, JV and varsity matches beginning at 1 p.m. against the Wildcats. All matches will be broadcast on the NFHS network.
