Scottie XC Teams Second in Havre

Both the boys and girls Scottie cross country teams claimed second place at the Havre Invitational Sept. 9. The Glasgow boys scored 44 points, finishing behind Havre's 31, and ahead of Harlem, 60; Fort Benton, 101.5, and Chinook, 134. The Scottie girls lost on a sixth runner tie-breaker as both Havre and Glasgow put 38 team points on the board. North Toole County, 79; Chinook, 98.5. and Fairfield, 118, finished behind Glasgow.

Head coach Tim Phillips told the Courier, "It was a perfect day to run: calm, temps in the upper 50s, and on a flat, fast course. We had lots of personal bests – our coaching staff is extremely proud of how the kids ran! For the returning boys, they cut over 13 minutes off last year's race in Havre!"

The Scotties set 12 personal records this past weekend and established seven new season bests. The girls hit five season and three personal bests while the boys established two season and nine personal bests.

Phillips praised his girls team, "Most of the girls were either sick or fighting some nagging minor injuries, but we were very happy with their effort. They ran at a very high level despite the ailments! It was great to get Kimber [Dulaney] and Mayzie [Yoakam] into their first race of the season. They will help us tremendously over the next six weeks.

"Kheyerah [Bilger] had a breakout race: a new personal best, and over 2 minutes faster than she was in Havre last year.

"Tanae [Baker] had a great race, competing the whole way through; Emily [See] is still fighting that ankle issue so to run that fast is pretty amazing to me.

"Haleigh [Huntsman] is just so solid in the middle of our pack – she continues to get faster and was just off her p.r.

"Jensina [Tweten] has really impressed me – she's really been running well!

"Riley [Evenson-Glasoe] had a big race this week, and both Mary [Dykema] and Josie [Kemp] improved their season bests."

Baker won the Havre Invite, running a 19:08.81. See's season record 19:32.61 put her in third place overall while Huntsman also cracked the top 10, finishing ninth with a season record 22:02.74.

Bilger's personal best 22:36.77 put her in 14th place while Yoakam's debut saw her in 17th with a time of 23:17.92. Tweten ran a personal best 23:52.18 for 20th place and Evenson-Glasoe finished directly behind her with a time of 23:56.23.

Dulaney debuted the season with a time of 25:50.84 and took 32nd place. Dykema and Kemp finished in 40th and 41st place, respectively, with times of 27:16.52 and 27:27.51.

Phillips was equally effusive about his boys team, "Kyler Holinde is starting to hit his stride, and Ted [See] competed well. We had a great pack with Ted, James [Seekins], and Kyler Whitman – Adam [Mickelson] was just behind them, so they are starting to gel.

"Rown [Kloker] and Owen [Thompson] both ran solid; Drew [Simensen] cut nearly three minutes off his personal best! Tim [Pearson] was great in encouraging Gage [Larsen] through the course and got him to a new p.r."

Holinde led the team with a third place showing and season record 17:33.10. T. See ran a season best 19:00.27 to break the top 10 at eighth place and Seekins rounded out Glasgow's top 10 showing in 10th place with a time of 19:04.36, another personal best.

Whitman ran a personal best 19:05.0 but did not place due to a lack of official race bib. Mickelson's personal best 19:55.60 put him in 14th place. Kloker placed 25th and Thompson 28th with personal best times of 20:27.30 and 21:06.61, respectively.

Simensen took 42nd place with a personal best 22:40.53. Pearson ran a 22:53.86 for 44th with Larsen right behind him at 22:53.89, a p.r. Vick Overbey also set a personal record and finished 51st with a time of 24:02.42. Tristin Silhan rounded out the squad with a personal best 27:27.87 and 62nd place.

The meet at the Pine Meadows Golf Course starts at 10 a.m. with the girls middle school race followed by middle school boys at 10:30 a.m. "And, really happy with the middle school: Coach Larsen and his staff have got them running really well!"
