GMS Cross Country

The Glasgow Middle School cross country teams hit the Wolf Point Invitational Aug. 25 for their first meet of the 2023 season. The Scottie boys won the event with a team score of 32. The Glasgow girls took fifth with 143 team points.

“We have a very young squad with only six 8th graders, so it was good to get our first race in and hopefully calm some nerves going forward,” said first-year head coach Will Larsen. “I was very pleased with the overall performances and effort.

Sixth-grader Elise Kirkland led the girls team with an 18th place finish. Larsen praised the great pack running by Ryder Bilger, Riley Pattison and Addie Hughes. “They were pushing each other the whole race and finished within 3 seconds of each other.

Jack Milan led the boys team with a third place finish while the team put four in the top seven. “I can’t say enough how fun this group is to coach,” Larsen said.

He added, “I’d like to give a shout-out to Coach [Tim] Phillips and Andrew McKean for always being there to answer the endless stream of questions I’ve had,” enthused Larsen, who developed a passion for the sport from his son Reed Larsen, a 2023 Glasgow graduate and all-state runner. “Also a huge acknowledgment to my assistant coach Grace Wyse and volunteer coach Rachel Pattison who continue to be the most amazing help a new coach could ask for.”

The Scotties will compete at the Poplar XC Invitational Saturday, Sept. 2.
