Pierce Presented First Annual Emitt Northup Achievement Award

Zachary Pierce was presented the first annual Emitt Northup Achievement Award at the 2023 Fort Peck Summer Theater Camp Showcase on Aug. 10. The presentation was made by Patt Etchart, lifelong volunteer and current Board Member, and Artistic Director of the Fort Peck Summer Theater Andy Meyers. The family and friends of Emitt Northup have established the Achievement Award in his memory. This Award recognizes any camper completing 10 years of perfect attendance at the Fort Peck Theater Performing Arts Camp. A Montana pottery mug, crafted by Daryl Northup, Emitt's brother, along with a monetary gift will be presented to qualified campers at the final performance each year.

Emitt has always been proud of and enjoyed the Fort Peck Summer Theater. It became even more heartfelt when, 16 years ago, his grandchildren began coming each summer to attend the Theater Camp. Over the years, campers who begin tentatively as third graders go on to celebrate as veteran performers with their peers and friends as senior campers. It is fun watching campers learn acting skills, dancing, singing, script writing, make-up, lighting, set building, costuming and (a favorite) stage combat. These young people, many of whom travel a distance to attend, look forward each year to reunite with their many friends in the camp, the community, and also the Theater's professional company.

This first annual award was even more meaningful, as the only qualified senior, Zachary Pierce, is Emitt's youngest grandchild. It is the hope and purpose of this Award to encourage Fort Peck Performing Arts Campers honor their 10 years of fun and education in Theater, and develop lifelong interest and skill.

If you would like to support this project, donations can be sent to Fort Peck Fine Arts Council, Box 973, Glasgow, MT 59230, attn: Emitt Northup Achievement Award. Be sure to attend the Free Theater Camp Showcase every summer. You'll be entertained and surprised!
