Reds Close Out Regular Season 11-21

Head To District Tourney In Miles City This Week

The Glasgow Reds closed out their regular season Saturday in Laurel with two losses to post an 11-21 record on the 2023 season. The doubleheader followed losses to the Billings Cardinals, 9-6 and 11-1 July 1, and Billings Blue Jays, 11-2 and 21-4 July 2, at home.

The Reds lost 8-3 and 18-6 July 6 to the visiting Laurel Dodgers before posting a 2-2 record at the First State Bank and Trust Tournament in Williston July 7-9. Glasgow defeated Bismarck 9-4, lost 8-0 to Williston, fell 6-4 to Burlington before rebounding to close the tourney with an 8-3 win over the Williston Oilers.

Glasgow got a late start in their first game against the Billings Cardinals, finally lighting up their line of the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth. The Reds took the lead with five runs in the fifth after Billings scored three times in the first and once in the top of the fifth.

Jordan Plummer hit a ground ball, sending JT Sprague home, to start the Reds' scoring streak. Beau Malnaa scored on a passed ball on the next at-bat. Plummer rounded home on a Juliun Benson ground ball before Brody Hansen scored on a Tatum Hansen pop fly.

The Cardinals regained control of the game in top of the seventh with five runs of their own. Glasgow's attempted comeback in the bottom of the inning was shut down by the Billings' defense after Benson drilled a triple and scored on a B. Hansen ground out.

Glasgow was outhit 11-6 in the matchup and committed one more error than the Cardinals, 5-4. Benson went 2-for-4 at bat to lead the Reds while B. Hansen, Rance Rhoads, Aiden Price and Jack Kolstad connected once each at the plate. Benson and B. Hansen split the team's two RBIs while Sprague had the lone stolen base.

Sprague took the loss on the pitcher's mound, throwing 18 pitches over one-third of an inning. He gave up four runs on two hits. Malnaa started the game for Glasgow, pitching for six innings. He allowed four runs on eight hits while throwing one strikeout. B. Hansen closed out the game, giving up one hit and one run with one strikeout.

The Reds' carried over their scoring into the first inning only of their second game against the Cardinals, scoring once in the first to tie the game. T. Hansen scored when Malnaa was walked. Billings made the game theirs with five runs in the second, one in the third, three in the fourth and one in the sixth to put the 10-run rule into effect.

The Cardinals racked up 12 hits in the game while Glasgow had five. Neither team committed an error. Rhoads went 2-for-2 at the plate in leading the Reds. Benson, T. Hansen and Kolstad added one hit a piece. Malnaa had the team's RBI while Sprague had the only stolen base.

Cash Stulc took the loss on the mound, allowing 10 runs and 10 hits with a .589 strike percentage. Dylan Plummer closed out the game, giving up one run and two hits with a .625 strike percentage.

The following day Glasgow hosted the Billings Blue Jays. The visiting team again took both games, winning the first 11-2. The Blue Jays put up one run in the first before Glasgow answered with two scores in the bottom of the second. Sprague and Malnaa each scored on a separate passed ball with Johnny Grimes at the plate.

Billings put up four runs in the fifth and six in the seventh for their road victory. Glasgow was outhit 11-5 in the tilt and committed three errors to the Blue Jays' two. The Reds' hits came from Benson, T. Hansen, Sprague, J. Plummer and Price. Grimes had the team's only stolen base.

J. Plummer took the loss on the mound, allowing six runs on seven hits over six and two-thirds innings with six strikeouts, a .610 strike percentage. B. Hansen threw 21 pitches, giving up four runs and two hits with a .524 strike percentage. T. Hansen closed out the game. He allowed one run and two hits with one strikeout, a .579 strike percentage.

Billings took an early lead in game two and held it to end the game after five innings. The Blue Jays led 6-2 after the first with when J. Plummer singled on a line drive to sent Rhoads and T. Hansen home.

Three of the Reds' six errors came in the second as the Blue Jays ran up their lead with 12 runs. Malnaa scored in the bottom of the second for Glasgow on a Benson ground out.

The Blue Jays scored thrice more in the third while only Rhoads crossed home, on a Price ground ball, for the Reds. Billings' commanding 21-4 lead held for the next two innings.

The Reds were outhit 8-4, led by J. Plummer's 2-for-3 showing at the plate with two RBIs. Rhoads and Malnaa each had one hit while Benson had the other RBI. Malnaa also had a stolen base for Glasgow.

Price took the loss, giving up six runs and one hit with one strikeout over two-thirds of an inning. Kolstad, in relief for two and one-third innings, allowed 15 runs and seven hits. Grimes threw a .692 strike percentage over the final two innings for the Reds.

Glasgow hosted the Laurel Dodgers July 2 in their final home games of the season. Laurel won the first game with two runs in each the first, third, fourth and fifth innings. The Dodgers fended off a bottom-of-the-sixth comeback attempt by the Reds, who scored three runs. Benson drove Kolstad home with a single ground ball to center field. Benson took advantage of an error by Laurel's third baseman to score with Sprague at bat before Rhoads scored on Sprague's double fly ball to left field.

Laurel outhit Glasgow 12-7 but also committed three errors while the home team held their mistakes to one. Benson was 3-for-4 at the plate with one RBI and a stolen base. Malnaa went 2-for-2 while Sprague had one hit and one RBI. J. Plummer notched the team's other hit.

Pitcher D. Plummer took the loss, allowing one hit over two innings with a .700 strike percentage. Benson started the game, throwing one strikeout with a .590 strike percentage over four innings while giving up six runs and seven hits. B. Hansen pitched one inning in relief, allowing four hits and two runs with one strikeout and a .533 strike percentage.

Glasgow found more offense in game two – scoring six runs – but were still outpaced by the Dodgers who sent 18 runners home to end the game in six innings. Laurel took a 3-1 lead after one. Glasgow's score came from Benson, who crossed home on a wild pitch with Rhoads at the plate.

The Reds took the lead in the bottom of the second with three runs. J. Plummer scored on a passed ball, John Engstrom was driven home by a T. Hansen single and Price took advantage of an error to cross home plate.

The Dodgers regained their lead with three runs in the fourth but Glasgow tied it up at 6-6 in the bottom when Rhoads and Sprague both scored on a Dodgers' error. Laurel scored once in the fifth and ran up the score with 11 in the sixth when Glasgow committed four of their seven errors.

Both teams had seven hits in the game with Laurel committing five errors. Price was 2-for-2 and Rhoads 2-for-3 at bat with B. Hansen, T. Hansen and Engtrom notching the other hits. T. Hansen had one RBI while Benson and Price had a stolen base each.

Grimes took the loss on the mound, allowing three runs with one strikeout and a .667 strike percentage over one and two-thirds innings. Kolstad started the game and gave up three runs and three hits over two innings with a .577 strike percentage. Price allowed three runs and two hits with a .357 strike percentage in an inning and a third. T. Hansen closed out the game. He gave up nine runs and two hits with one strikeout out with a .390 strike percentage.

The Reds were in Williston July 7 through 9 for the First State Bank and Trust Tournament. Glasgow went 2-2 in the non-conference games.

Glasgow started the tourney with a 9-4 win over Bismarck in eight innings.

Sprague scored first when Rhoads was walked and Malnaa scored on a J. Plummer sacrifice fly in the top of the first. The Reds sent Bismarck back to the field after a three-up, three-down showing with two strikeouts by Rhoads and a line out to B. Hansen. Bismarck returned the favor in the top of the second before scoring once in the inning.

T. Hansen scored on a pass in the top of the third when J. Plummer singled and advance to second, also on the throw. Glasgow's opponents sent three around the bases to claim a 4-3 lead after three but B. Hansen was driven home by a Sprague fly ball in the fourth to tie the game.

The Reds kept Bismarck off the scoreboard over the next four innings while scoring five times in the eighth for the win. Engstrom touched home on a Grimes' line drive to center field, before Grimes scored when Sprague was hit by a pitch, advancing all runners. Kolstad crossed the plate on a Malnaa line drive to left field and T. Hansen drove B. Hansen and Sprague home on a single line drive to center field.

Both teams notched eight hits. The Reds had five errors while Bismarck turned in a flawless game.

J. Plummer went 2-for-4 at bat with two RBIs. Sprague, Malnaa, T. Hansen, Grimes, Kolstad and B. Hansen had one hit each with Sprague and T. Hansen adding two RBIs a piece. Mlanaa, Rhoads and Grimes added one RBI each. T. Hansen and Sprague both had one stolen base.

J. Plummer was credited with the win. He allowed no runs or hits in one and one-third innings with two strikeouts. Over 18 pitches he logged a .611 strike percentage. Rhoads started the game and threw a .673 strike percentage on 107 pitches over six and two-thirds innings. He had nine strikeouts while giving up four runs and eight hits.

Glasgow took on Williston July 8 in their first game of the day, falling 8-0 after the victors jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first. Williston scored once more in the fifth to end the game early. The Reds had one hit and three errors to Williston's nine hits and three errors. T. Hansen had the team's lone hit, as well as a stolen base.

Malnaa took the loss for Glasgow, throwing six strikeouts and a .616 strike percentage over the game. He gave up eight runs and nine hits.

The Reds had a closer game that afternoon but lost 6-4 to the Burlington Bulldogs. B. Hansen and T. Hansen scored when Rhoads doubled on a fly ball to left field in the first but the Bulldogs put up a run in the second and third to tie the game. They pulled away with a run in the fifth and sixth while Glasgow scored once in the sixth when T. Hansen stepped over home on a passed ball with Grimes at bat.

Burlington sent two runners home in the seventh. Price scored on a single by B. Hansen in the bottom of the inning but the team fell short of forcing extra innings.

Glasgow was outhit 12-9 while both teams had a single error. B. Hansen went 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI to lead Glasgow. Price connected on 2-of-3 showings at bat and T. Hansen was 2-for-4. Rhoads and J. Plummer each had a hit with Rhoads adding two RBIs to the stats sheet while J. Plummer had a stolen base.

Price took the loss for Glasgow, allowing four hits and two runs over two innings. He threw a .513 strike percentage. Stulc started the game, lasting five innings. He gave up three runs on eight hits with one strikeout and a .475 strike percentage.

The Reds recovered to close out the tourney Sunday with an 8-3 win over the Williston Oilers. Glasgow scored once in the first, second and third innings before sending five Reds home in the fourth while holding Williston to two in the third and one in the seventh.

Rhoads drove T. Hansen home in the first with a ground ball to left field. Kolstad scored on a Williston error in the second with Sprague at the plate and T. Hansen scored when Rhoads attempted to make first base on a dropped third strike in the third. B. Hansen scored first in the fourth when T. Hansen drilled a ground ball and reached first on an Oilers' error. Rhoads doubled on a fly ball to center field, driving in Sprague and J. Plummer while T. Hansen scored on the throw. Rhoads scored on a passed ball two batters later.

The Reds had two hits to Williston's seven and three errors to their opponents' six. Rhoads had both hits and five RBIs while T. Hansen had the team's other RBI. Kolstad had three stolen bases with B. Hansen and Sprague committing theft once each.

J. Plummer collected the win, throwing 106 pitches over six and two-thirds innings with seven strikeouts and a .660 strike percentage. He allowed three runs and seven hits. Grimes closed out the game with a .286 strike percentage on seven pitches.

Glasgow closed out the regular season July 15 in Laurel. The Reds fell to the Dodgers 12-2 and 8-0 to finish the season 11-21.

The Dodgers scored six times in the first, thrice in the second, once in the third and twice in the fifth while holding the Reds to two run sin the fourth to end the first game in five innings. B. Hansen scored on a Laurel error with J. Plummer at bat and Rhoads stole home two batters later to get Glasgow on the scoreboard.

The Reds were outhit 10-2 and committed five errors while the Dodgers had one error. Rhoads and J. Plummer had the hits for Glasgow and both added a stolen base.

Mason Hunter took the loss on the mound, allowing six runs and three hits over one-third of an inning with a .462 strike percentage. Price relieved him and allowed four runs and six hits over two and two-thirds innings with two strikeouts and a .536 strike percentage. Grimes pitched for one inning. He threw a .389 strike percentage and gave up two runs and one hit.

The Reds were unable to generate offense in game two, getting only four hits to Laurel's eight. Glasgow committed six errors while the home team committed one. The Dodgers score twice in the first and three runs in both the second and fourth innings. The Reds' hits came from Sprague, Rhoads, Grimes and D. Plummer.

J. Plummer took the loss. He allowed five runs and five hits with one strikeout and a .610 strike percentage over the first two innings. Rhoads, in relief, gave up three runs and three hits over three innings with a .649 strike percentage. Kolstad threw one strikeout with a .562 strike percentage in the final inning of the game.

Glasgow will attend the District Tournament in Miles City Thursday through Sunday, July 20-23.
