Reds Record at 9-15

The Glasgow Reds' record sits at 9-15. Glasgow dropped both their doubleheaders in Billings last weekend. They fell 1-0 and 9-5 June 25 to the Cardinals before losing 18-0 and 14-4 the following day to the Blue Jays. The Reds recovered with two home wins June 29 over the Richland Patriots. Glasgow won those games 7-2 and 8-0.

Glasgow hosted the Cardinals Saturday, losing 9-6 and 11-1. The Blue Jays were in town Sunday to take two more wins off the Reds, 11-2 and 21-4.

The Reds saw a pitching battle in their first game against the Cardinals, with the Reds connecting three times at bat while the Cardinals registered five hits. No runner crossed the plate until Billings scored in the bottom of the fifth with what turned out to be the game-winning run.

Rance Rhoads took the loss for the Reds, spending all six innings on the mound. He allowed five hits and one run while throwing four strikeouts with a .692 strike percentage. Rhoads, along with the Reds defense, sent the Cardinals back to the field three times with a Billings' three-up, three-down showing at bat.

Mason Hunter, Rhoads and Beau Malnaa had a hit each for Glasgow with Hunter also notching one stolen base. Glasgow had only one error in the game.

Both teams found their bats in their second game. Billings took a 4-0 lead after two, but Glasgow tied it up in the third. Aiden Price and Jack Kolstad were driven home by a Hunter double fly ball to center field to kick off the action for the Reds. Juliun Benson was next over the plate, scoring on a Tatum Hansen sacrifice fly. Rhoads batted Hunter in with a double to left field.

The Reds sent the Cardinals back to the field quickly with tough defense, which held until the bottom of the sixth. Billings found a hot streak, scoring five times to take a 10-4 lead heading into the final inning.

JT Sprague scored in the top of the seventh on a passed ball for the Reds, but a strikeout and a ground out ended Glasgow's hopes for a comeback.

Glasgow was outhit 10-7 while both teams had two errors. Hunter and Rhoads both went 2-for-4 at bat with Hunter notching two RBIs and Rhoads one. Jordan Plummer, Kolstad and Sprague added one hit each.

Hunter took the loss on the mound, pitching for five and one-third innings. He allowed nine runs and eight hits while throwing four strikeouts with a .671 strike percentage before being relieved by Hansen. The latter allowed two hits with a .529 strike percentage in closing out the game.

Glasgow had no more luck Sunday against the Blue Jays. The home team leaped out to a 9-0 lead in the first. Billings added a run in the second and third before going on a seven-run streak in the fourth to end the game after again shutting the Reds out in the top of the fifth.

Glasgow was outhit 14-5 and committed two errors in the 18-0 loss. Hunter went 2-for-2 at bat in leading the Reds. Benson, Malnaa and Brody Hansen had one hit each. Cash Stulc took the loss, allowing nine runs and four hits with a .465 strike percentage in his one inning on the mound. Johnny Grimes, in relief, gave up nine runs and 10 hits with a .52 strike percentage.

Billings shut down game two after five innings with a five-run stretch in the bottom of the final inning. The Blue Jays scored once in the second before Glasgow tied it in the top of the next inning when Benson was driven in by a T. Hansen line drive. Billings pulled away with four runs in their at-bat and increased their lead to 9-1 in the fourth.

The Reds put three more runs on the scoreboard in the fifth when Hunter and T. Hansen scored on a Sprague home run.

Both teams had a single error and Glasgow had nine hits to Billings' 11 hits. Hunter led the Reds with a 3-for-3 showing at the plate. T. Hansen had two hits while Benson, Sprague, Price and B. Hansen added one each. Sprague had three RBIs and T. Hansen had one. T. Hansen had two stolen bases with Benson and Sprague adding one each.

Malnaa took the loss for Glasgow after allowing nine runs and seven hits over three and two-thirds innings with a .507 strike percentage. Price gave up five runs and four hits over one inning with a .368 strike percentage. D. Plummer closed out the game with a .308 strike percentage on 13 pitches.

Glasgow played on home turf Thursday and made the most of it with two solid victories over the Patriots. The Reds scored first in game one when Benson hit home after tagging up on a Rhoads fly out. Richland briefly took the lead in the top of the third with two runs but Glasgow answered and never looked back. Kolstad scored on Hunter ground ball before Hunter rounded home on a Rhoads triple.

Glasgow sealed the deal with three runs in the fifth and one in the sixth. In the fifth, Hunter scored on a Patriots' error, Malnaa batted Rhoads in and Sprague scored on a passed ball. Hunter sent Benson home in the sixth on a fly ball to center field.

Benson spent all seven innings on the mound, throwing seven strikeouts with a .776 strike percentage while allowing two runs on eight hits. Glasgow had six hits in the game, led by Benson and Rhoads who were both 2-for-3 at bat. Hunter and Malnaa had one hit each. Rhoads had two of the team's RBIs with Hunter and Malnaa splitting the other two.

Benson had three stolen bases for Glasgow followed by T. Hansen with two, and Hunter and Sprague with one each.

Glasgow continued to own their home field in game two with four runs in the first innings, two in the fourth and two in the fifth. Benson crossed home first on a Hunter ground ball. T. Hansen and Hunter scored on a Rhoads double fly ball and Malnaa capitalized on a Richland error to establish the Reds' lead in the first.

Plummer was sent home by Benson in the fourth before Benson scored on a T. Hansen line drive to left field. In the fifth, Malnaa sent Rhoads home on a line drive before scoring himself on a passed ball.

Glasgow outhit Richland 9-4 and held their errors to three while the visitors had four.

Benson was 3-for-4 at the plate with one RBI while Rhoads went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. T. Hansen, Hunter and Malnaa added a hit with an RBI each. Benson had two stolen bases and Malnaa one.

Rhoads earned the win one the mound, throwing nine strikeouts and a .709 strike percentage over seven innings.

Complete stats for the July 1 and 2 games were unavailable at press time.

Glasgow hosts the Laurel Dodgers Thursday, July 6, for Senior Night. Games are scheduled for 1 and 3 p.m. at Bill Connors field. The Reds will be in Williston Friday through Sunday, July 7-9. Glasgow plays the Bismarck 15's at 1:30 p.m. Friday and the Williston Oilers at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in pool play to determine bracket standings.
