Scottie Boys Win Three Golf Meets

After the inevitable delay to the start of Spring sports, the golf season is in full swing and the Scottie golf teams are ready. With three meets in four days, the boys posted three wins while the girls brought home two third-place finishes and one second place.

At home, the boys won the Glasgow Invitational at Sunnyside with a team score of 348 April 28. They finished ahead of Malta, Plentywood, Poplar, Bainville, Harlem and Wolf Point.

Riley Smith and Keigan Ingram led the squad with scores of 81 and tied for second place. Eli Feezell finished in fifth with a score of 90. Carter Hoerster cracked the top 10 with a 96. Connor Koski shot a 100 for 16th place.

In girls' action, Glasgow finished with a score of 118, behind Plentywood and Malta. Laynee Simpson shot an 118 to finish in sixth place. Allie Palm finished in 11th with a 130 score followed by Mia Peterson in 13th with a 133 and Annika Smith in 14th with a 154.

Glasgow hit the road the next day to compete in Malta. The Scottie boys outshot Malta, Conrad, Poplar, Chinook and Wolf Point Saturday.

R. Smith powered his boys team to a first place finish with an individual top slot after shooting a 75. Feezell shot an 81 to finish directly behind his teammate. Ingram took sixth place with an 87 and Hoerster finished in eighth with a 93. Koski shot a 102 for 12th place.

Glasgow's girls team placed behind Malta and ahead of Conrad.

Palm shot a 116 for sixth place. Simpson and Peterson also finished in the top 10 with Simpson hitting ninth with a 119 and Peterson taking 10th with a 124. A. Smith was right behind her teammates in 11th with a 148.

The Scotties had one night at home before traveling Sunday to Conrad for yet another meet on Monday.

The Glasgow boys shot a 333 to claim another top finish. The Scotties outplayed Cut Bank, Conrad, Fairfield, Choteau, Malta and Shelby.

R. Smith and Ingram both shot a 77 to finish in a four-way tie for first. Feezell's 81 put him in sixth place. Hoerster and Koski tied for 19th with scores of 98.

The Scottie girls took second with a score of 486, finishing behind Malta.

Simpson led the team with a 116 and an eighth-place showing. Palm and Peterson tied for ninth after both closed the course with a 120. A. Smith shot a 130 and placed 16th.

Glasgow's boys JV team competed at the Glasgow Invitational, taking the first, second, third and seventh place slots. Sam Knierim led the team with a 108 followed by Coy Nelson, who shot a 111. Flint Dix was a stroke behind Nelson in third place. Drew Simensen shot a 130 for seventh place.

Assistant Coach Joel Smith said, "The boys' score of 336 in Malta puts [us] on pace for where we want to be. The girls are making gains every tournament and have a great shot to make state."

Head Coach Todd Truscott was equally enthused about his teams. "What a great three tournaments: boys winning all three and girls taking two third places and one second place. We are putting it all together and with divisionals and state coming up, there is no ceiling to what we can do."

The Scottie golf teams will be in Wolf Point for the Poplar Invitational Thursday, May 4, and hosting the Glasgow Golf Invitational Friday, May 5, at 10 a.m.

The Division 1 meet will be held in Shelby Tuesday, May 9.
