Valley County 4-H Makes Blankets For Valley County Law Enforcement

Members of Valley County 4-H came together on Dec. 29 to make tie quilts for Valley County Law Enforcement. Under the direction of Bobbie Britzman, members cut and tied around the edges of fleece to create four blankets to be given to the Valley County Sheriff's department with the hope they can be handed out to children and adults in times of need. Valley County Sheriff Tom Boyer was present for the presentation at First Lutheran Church.

Each 4-H member completes at least 10 hours of service learning and community service in the Valley County community. Members have also applied for 4-H People Partner grants to improve the lives of people in Valley County. These grants have contributed to the new sink at the Ridgerunners, park improvements in Ophiem and improvements on the Valley County fairgrounds.

Other activities at 4-H Winter Fun Day on Dec. 29 included making Lefse, making leather key chains and learning knots to make a key fob or zipper pull. Members also made vaccine gun coolers and learned about beef, sheep and swine management.

4-H is a youth development program for all youth ages six to 19.
