The annual school election will be held Tuesday, May 7. There is one vacancy for the Glasgow School Board of Trustees this year, as Dr. Charles Wilson's term is set to expire. This is a three-year term. To date, no one has filed for the open position. Dr. Wilson has indicated he will not run for reelection after more than 20 years on the board.

The Glasgow City Council heard a description of a proposed cooperative effort between the Glasgow and Long Run fire departments. Glasgow Fire Chief Brandon Brunelle said it would save money, eliminate duplications and be more efficient to unify their forces. All the firefighters would be members of both departments. They will start to meet and train together in April for a trial period, Brunelle said.

A week after taking second in the MAHA State Tournament, the U19 Ice Dawgs finished second again in the NDAHA State Tournament A2 bracket.

The eighth-annual Glasgow AAU Wrestling Club pie auction was a delectable success on Friday with over $6,000 raised on the night. The pie auction took place after a spaghetti dinner, the unveiling of new singlets and the christening of the new Glasgow Highlanders name. Almost 60 pies were auctioned off, many going for over $100 and the highest selling for $210.

Lyndon Erickson, known as Lynn, a veteran Montana Highway Patrolman, has been named Glasgow's new Chief of Police. The department has been under the direction of Lieutenant Mike Sukut as Acting Chief since last fall, when Emery Brelje retired to become Glasgow City Judge.

It looked like a reunion was being held at the courthouse on Friday, and in a way it was. Active and retired county employees and friends crowded into the Community room to honor Mary Lou Eide on her retirement after 42 years as Valley County Clerk and Recorder.

Georgia Barstad won a state-of-art Compaq computer system valued at $1,999 in a B&B IGA sweepstakes. She was one of two contest winners from over one million possible entries in 10 states.

Thursday, March 8, 1973

The cemetery reward and repair fund this week more than doubled the $500 earmarked as reward for information leading to the arrest of vandals who knocked over 150 tombstones in Highland cemetery Feb. 11.

Sandy Adams, Montana Hereford association queen for 1973, will be in attendance at the fifth annual East Hi-Line Hereford association bull and female show and sale in Glasgow March 11-12.

Teachers' salaries this year reveal a base pay of $6,900, a hike of $100 over last year's schedule, for those with bachelors degrees and no experience. The pay scale for teachers with bachelors degrees and 10 years experience is $9.453, marking an increase of $341. The salary schedule for those holding masters degrees range from $7,569 with no experience, and increase of $158, to $12,433 with 15 years experience.

The goal of the Valley County chapter in the national Red cross membership campaign which is being held this month is set at $4,248, Dr. C. A. Lecy, chapter chairman, said this week. Of this, $2,244 is the request of the national organization and $2,004, the budget for the chapter. C. H. Brocksmith is county campaign chairman.

Royce Biddle of Glasgow received the honorary chapter farmer degree from the Future Farmer of America at the annual banquet which the Future Farmers and the Future Homemakers of America gave in Glasgow High School Wednesday night. The boys invited their fathers and the girls invited their mothers.

What is the relationship between the average German diet and the average German's thinking? The answer to this question will be sought this summer by Nettie Neufeld, University of Minnesota student and former Valley County resident. She has been chosen one of 40 university students who will study in foreign countries next summer under the university's Student Project for Amity Among Nations.

Eight schools will be represented in a grade team basketball tournament sponsored by the Fort Peck school to be held in the Recreation hall here, March 12 and 13, Principal Erling Vodal announced today.
