Nashua Boys Win Two More

The Porcupines boys basketball team improved to 6-3, 11-5 overall with a conference win over Frazer Friday and a non-conference overtime win in Brockton the following night. Nashua defeated Frazer 75-13 with three players hitting double-digit scoring. The Porcupines defeated the Warriors 57-55 in overtime, putting a stop to Brockton’s comeback.

Nashua fired up the offense in the first half against Frazer, scoring 26 and 23 points in the first and second quarters while holding Frazer to 11 in each of the same frames. The Porcupines held a 49-22 lead at the half and led 65-29 heading into the fourth quarter. Nashua edged Frazer by a single point, 10-9, in the last eight minutes.

Grady Nielsen and Caden Laumeyer poured in 25 and 21 points, respectively, to lead the Porcupines while Xander Pugh added 10 points. Nelsen hit 9-of-10 free throws and Laumeyer drained his single bonus shot. Pugh hit two shots from downtown. Jackson Abern scored 8, Bubb Pugh 6 with a 2-for-2 showing at the line, and Damon Adkins scored 5 with a trey and hitting 2-of-2 free throws. Nashua shot 80.0 percent at the line.

Frazer was called for 18 fouls, 10 in the first half, while Nashua held theirs to four, only one after halftime. B. Pugh drew two whistles while X. Pugh and Laumeyer had one foul each.

In Brockton on Saturday, Nashua held a one-point advantage at the end of the first eight minutes, 15-14, and led 34-31 at the half. The Porcupines outscored the Warriors 14-10 in the third but were held to 3 in the fourth while their hosts put up 10 points to send the game to overtime knotted at 51-51.

In the extra four minutes, Nashua hit 2-of-6 free throws, allowing them to squeak out the 57-55 win.

Laumeyer led the team with 24 points while Nielsen hit a trey and 4-of-9 bonus shots for 18 points. X. Pugh scored 7 with Adkins hitting two from downtown for 6 points. B. Pugh added a bucket. Nashua hit 36.0 percent from the free throw line.

Brockton racked up 20 fouls while Nashua held theirs to 11, seven in the second half. Adkins, X. Pugh and Nielsen were each called for three while Laumeyer had two fouls.

Nashua closes out the regular season with two home games this weekend. The Porcupines host Scobey Friday, Feb. 10. The girls JV team will play a half-game at 4 p.m. Varsity girls tip off at 6 p.m. with the varsity boys game scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Richey/Lambert will be in Nashua Saturday, Feb. 11, for three games. The girlss JV teams will play a half-game at 5 p.m., followed by varsity girls at 6 p.m. and varsity boys at 7:30 p.m.
