LC Boys Win Two

The Lustre Christian boys basketball team continued their winning streak this past weekend with victories over Scobey and Bainville. The Lions defeated the Spartans 58-33 in a conference match-up at home Tuesday and downed the Bulldogs 80-48 in a non-conference road game Friday night. Lustre’s record now sits at 7-0, 15-0 overall.

Scobey held even with Lustre during the first half Tuesday as each team put up 8 in the first quarter and 11 in the second quarter for a 19-19 tie at the half. The Lions returned to the hardwood to put on a scoring show, hitting for 26 points while holding the Spartans to 3 points. Lustre outpaced Scobey 13-11 in the fourth for the win.

Jasiah Hambira led all scorers with 23 points, including 1-of-1 shooting at the free throw line, hitting 15 points in the third quarter alone. Cayden Klatt added 8 with two three-pointers and Braden Ewing scored 6 points. Clay Reddig and Elijah Lenihan scored 5 each with Reddig draining 1-of-2 bonus shots and Lenihan hitting one from downtown. Johnslee Pierre scored 4, Byron Ewing 3 with a free throw, and Alex Chen and Terran Joseph scoring a bucket each. Lustre shot 27.3 percent from the line.

Scobey was called for 15 fouls, nine in the second half, while Lustre held theirs to 11, five in the second half. Bryan Chen was called for three while Lenihan, Pierre, and By. Ewing had two each. A. Chen and Hambira each drew a whistle.

The Lions hit double-digit scoring in each of the four quarters against Bainville, leading in each. Lustre went up 14-9 in the first quarter and held a 39-19 advantage at the half. They outscored their hosts 16-13 in the third and turned in another 25 points in the fourth while holding the Bulldogs to 16 points.

Hambira again led all scorers, this time with 20 points, despite a 0-for-4 showing at the line. Lenihan hit for 16 with three treys and 1-of-2 free throw shooting. Klatt added 12 with two three-pointers and a 2-for-2 performance on bonus shots. By. Ewing hit 5-of-8 free throws on his way to 9 points and Br. Ewing hit 2-of-3 at the line for 8 points. Reddig scored 5 with a 1-for-3 showing at the charity stripe and Pierre scored 4 points. B. Chen, Cam Reddig and A. Chen added a bucket each. The Lions shot 54.2 percent on free throws.

Bainville was called for 21 fouls, 12 in the second half, while Lustre had 20 infractions, seven in the second half. Klatt drew four whistles while B. Chen, Br. Ewing, By. Ewing and Hambira had three fouls each. Lenihan drew two fouls and Cl. Reddig and Pierre had one foul a piece.

The Lions welcome the Glasgow Scottie C teams to town Friday, Feb. 3, for a 5 p.m. girls game and a 6:30 p.m. boys game.

Lustre Christian has only one conference match-up this week, hosting the Frazer Bearcubs Saturday, Feb. 4. The girls varsity game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. followed by the boys varsity game at 7 p.m.
