Lustre Girls Fall to North Country

The Lions girls basketball team fell to the number-one ranked team in the state, the North Country Mavericks, Friday night in Saco by a 56-14 score. Lustre Christian’s game against Dodson, scheduled for Saturday night, was rescheduled to Jan. 19 due to freezing rain/black ice conditions.

North Country took immediate control of the game, holding Lustre Christian to a single free throw in the first quarter while putting up 19 points. The Lions trailed 33-4 at the half and were outscored 18-8 in the third quarter. North Country held Lustre to a single bucket in the fourth while scoring 5 points.

Alexa Reddig put in two three-pointers to lead the Lions with 6 points. Aubri Holzrichter added 5 with a shot from downtown while Hannah Brown scored 2 and Grace Brown hitting a free throw.

The Lions had nine fouls, two in the second half while the Mavericks held theirs to six, one in the second half.

Reddig was called for three and Hope Marottek drew two whistles. Aabby Olfert, Holzrichter, H. Brown and G. Brown had one foul each.

Lustre Christian hosted the Dodson Coyotes Tuesday night but scores were unavailable at press time. The story will appear in next week’s Courier.

The Lions travel to Nashua Thursday, Jan. 19 for a girls JV half-game at 4 p.m. and a boys JV half-game at 5 p.m., followed by the girls varsity game at 6 p.m. and the boys varsity match at 7:30 p.m. Lustre Christian hosts Culbertson Saturday, Jan. 21, with the boys JV game at 2:30 p.m. followed by the girls varsity game at 4 p.m. and the boys varsity tip off at 5:30 p.m.
